A MAN in his sixties died this morning after he was hit by a truck while cycling at West End.

District Duty Officer Damien Hearn said police were called to the scene about 7.30am.

“The Queensland Ambulance Service attended and performed CPR but sadly the gentleman died at the scene,” he said.

Forensic crash officers are on scene and the section of road — Echlin St and Stagpole St at West End — is expected to be closed for several hours.

^ That's unfortunate. Inference from the article is they were mates out for a ride. Surprised the standard line about "safety" equipment is missing.

2016-03-15 Port Pirie Truck vs group of four

Postby Thoglette » Tue Mar 15, 2016 1:46 pm

Cyclist killed when truck and riders collide at Port Pirie
ABC News wrote: A cyclist has been killed in a collision between a truck and a group of riders on the outskirts of Port Pirie in South Australia's mid-north.

"A male cyclist died at the scene. Two other men injured in the crash are also being treated — one is in a serious condition and the other is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries," police said in a statement.

Major Crash investigators went to the scene of the accident in Germein Road at Solomontown.

It is understood three of four cyclists who were riding together were hit.

The crash was reported to police just after 10:30am and Germein Road remains closed to all traffic.

Some more details from Channel 9 News. The driver's blood alcohol level was three times the legal limit. He fled the scene and was found 2km down the road. It was a white ute. He was also charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle due to an incident with another cyclist half an hour earlier. if this despicable human being doesn't go to gaol for at least five years it will be another example of injustice.

The truck driver has been bailed to appear in the Port Pirie Magistrates Court on May 9."

Was the Qld one related to this: http://noosatoday.com.au/stories/2016-0 ... ist-death/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ?

If the driver had been harassing others beforehand, then shows motive and cause and should go away for a good spell.

A man and his dog didn't return from a bike ride through Toohey Forest on Friday night.

He was found dead today with the dog waiting by his side.

The suspect has been charged: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-03-30/m ... ad/7283734
He was charged with failing to offer assistance after a traffic incident causing bodily harm or death, and failing to report the incident to police.
Let's hope they have enough evidence to piece together the collision and charge the driver for the actual killing if he is at fault (which seems likely from the fact that he didn't stop).

Woman arrested over hit and run in Ballarat last Friday:
ABC News
Cyclist fighting for his life.

Edited to remove the word fatality; ABC originally called this a fatality but apparently the cyclist is still alive. Thoughts go out to him to pull through.

That report says the cyclist suffered life threatening injuries - I haven't heard anything about him dying. Not good either way.

As Biker said, ABC originally called it a fatality. I have edited my original post to correct this. Fingers crossed the rider makes it.
