Gosnells cyclist dies from crash injuries
The West Australian on March 31, 2016, 11:58 am wrote:A 43-year-old cyclist has died from injuries received in a crash on Tuesday.

Jamie Douglas Kneale died overnight as police continue to investigate the crash at a roundabout in Gosnells about 3pm.

The death comes after the death of Gabriele Schiller-Brett who was knocked off her bike in Halls Head on Tuesday and later died.

Another cyclist was admitted to hospital with lacerations to his legs after he was also knocked from his bike in Yokine just before 8am on Tuesday morning.

Mr Kneale received head injuries after being hit by a ute and knocked from his bike.

Police have been speaking to the driver of the white ute at the intersection of Dorothy and Hicks streets and have called for witnesses to the crash.

The driver of the vehicle was not hurt.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or saw the utility or bicycle prior to the crash is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make a report online at www.crimestopperswa.com.au.

We lost another this morning at Acacia Ridge in Brisbane. From speaking to a witness via UHF CB, the cyclist was at the front left corner of a semi-trailer which turned left at the intersection. The stretch of road has a bike lane, except for around 15m at the intersection (over a bridge) where the bike lane is replaced by a painted traffic island. The incident occurred at the corner of Learoyd Rd (west bound) and Paradise Rd (south) Acacia Ridge.

This is in my neighborhood and I consider both roads safe for cyclists even though they carry a large number of heavy vehicles.

As a truck driver, I would strongly advise not putting yourself at the front left corner of a large truck (bonneted or otherwise) as most have a large blind spot in this location. Unless the driver sees you approach, they will have no idea that your there.

A cyclist has died in a crash involving a semi-trailer at Acacia Ridge in Brisbane's south.

The cyclist collided with the truck near the intersection of Paradise Road and Learoyd Road about 9:40am, Acting Inspector Paul Dalton said.

Police and ambulance officers were on the scene a short time later but the 29-year-old man died from his injuries.

The driver of the truck, a 55-year-old man from Redbank Plains, was not physically injured during the crash.

The Forensic Crash Unit continues to investigate.

Police have been attempting to contact the cyclist's family.

I wonder if it is clear enough for the police to run his face through their license file pics. Some one will put him in, its not a bad pic.

Our hit-run laws were reviewed and toughened about 5 years ago following the Eugene McGee debacle in SA. I think that a hit-run causing death now is punishable with up to 10 years prison.

If the police can be f***ed to lay a charge. If the judge or jury can be f***ed to find them guilty. Then if the judges bother to even apply a penalty :x

Our legal system remains dominated and run by autocentric morons !!!

Have to agree with you IP. The mentality is cyclists are narcissists who put themselves in harm's way.
which is as neanderthal as thinking women who wear short skirts put themselves in harm's way.

A 12-year-old boy hit by a truck while riding his bike in Butler has died in hospital.

The boy, who had been riding without a helmet, reportedly underwent brain surgery in Royal Perth Hospital early on Friday after being transferred from Joondalup Health Campus, where he was taken following the incident on Thursday afternoon.

He later died.

Witnesses say boy was riding fast down a hill with no helmet and hit the side of a truck.

The crash occurred on the corner of Swavesey and Connolly Drive, Butler.

A sad reminder that cyclists must never expect motorists to be competent and vigilant, whether the cyclist is riding within the law or not.

I am so sick of seeing this line in news reports of cyclist fatalities;
'The 56-year-old man driving the car was not injured.'
Do they do it to remind motorists just how dangerous cyclists are to motorists?

or 'the cyclist was not wearing a helmet' - even if the cyclists had no head injuries and head injuries weren't even the cause of the accident, or the death.

oh but I guess it is the law so if they don't have a helmet they must've been a renegade. or something.
