Qld Police Report Thread 2016

Postby TheWall » Wed May 04, 2016 8:25 pm

Hi All,

I think it is a good idea for the forum to have a central location to house all reports to the Police regarding driver behaviour. It can help identify common themes in Police responses and would help catalogue success/failures and help other forumites overcome blockages.

I propose a common log:

Date of incident:
Type of incident: (ie punishment pass, actual contact or road rage etc).
Footage of incident recorded: (yes/no and vehicle/person able to be clearly identified?)
QPS Report No:
Police Response:
Driver ticketed/warned?

Happy to edit if people want different format...? Will log mine asap.

Matt

PS: Really keen to not have thread derailments here on this thread (pretty please!)

Of course...was kind of thinking the MM/PPass threads can house the majority of the forum commentary and the should I report or not type questions where this one can hold more factual stuff and is reserved only for incidents that have been reported.

Would love to add some incidences I've logged with police. But the outcomes are just too depressing.

Do you want ones that have been completed or outstanding?

Does someone know if posting them here affects their potential efficacy?

I was thinking for ones that had been 'finalised' as a type of catalogue of what was/wasn't (and their why not if that was the response) actually done by QPS and hence it is ok to state the Q number. Could then be used as a reference tool for escalations if needed.

Can you post the police station where it was reported, should help figure out where to send reports for the best results, and where to avoid.

The complaints go to the police station in nearest the complaint. If you satisfy the officer there, then they forward it on to the police station nearest the motorist and you get to play the game again!

But some police officers are easier to satisfy than others. There's no requirement to report to the nearest station to the location of the incident, any station should be prepared to act on any complaint. Its just good to know the ones who are better prepared...

It matters not where you report the incident. The complaint is sent to the station who owns the patch where the incident occurred, regardless of where it's reported.

Date of incident: 08/08/2015
Type of incident: very close pass
Footage of incident recorded: yes and vehicle able to be clearly identified
Reporting method: via Hoon online form
QPS Report No: Yes but kept.
Police Response: Young driver, no driving record. Can't proove that pass was less than 1 metre. Supplied still photos showing cracks on the road near the tyres, with measurments to the fog line etc. Still no change in attitude. The officer was great, she escallated to the OIC, and then to the Bne South Traffic Superintendent, no action taken. Taken up with BQ being the advocacy group which I pay membership fees to, and they haven't done squat either.
Police Station Responding: Holland Park
Driver ticketed/warned? No and no.

Date of incident: 24/02/2016
Type of incident: punishment pass then road rage
Footage of incident recorded: (yes and vehicle/person able to be clearly identified
Reporting method: Bicycle incident online form
QPS Report No: Kept Private
Police Response: I was interviewed, and subsequently the driver was interviewed, it was suggested that I shouldn't attempt to talk to someone who needs some education on safe passing distances. The driver was ticketed for a couple of offences thanks to the footage.
Police Station Responding: Moorooka
Driver ticketed/warned? Driver was ticketed.

Yep. You can report it at any police station to get a qprime number etc but they will then forward on your information to the respected traffic branch responsible for where the incident took place.

Not quite, the local police station, I've never had one directed to the local traffic branch, nor have I ever been contacted by a traffic cop, just general duties.

My 1st one:

Date of incident: 08/11/15
Type of incident: Aggressive driving then punishment pass a couple of minutes later. Hyundai iX35 681VCW
Footage of incident recorded: Yes and vehicle/person able to be clearly identified? Yes
Reporting method: Hoon Hotline Online
QPS Report No: QP1501636638
Police Response: No ticket issued despite two incidents within 10 or so minutes. I was warned that i should not be riding that line through the roundabout and that I should let cars through. I was also told I should have slowed behind the other cyclists entering the 'cycle lane' and then passed when it was clear!

When I asked about the horn the officer responded with "Drivers are allowed to use the horn when faced with an obstruction'" Nice. Was also told that it was not the Police that did not want to pursue these because judges would throw them out as "evidence could not accurately prove passing distance"...Sigh.
Police Station Responding: Nambour
Driver ticketed/warned? Driver spoken to but not infringed. Driver also made up that there were three people in his car (there were two) and my mistake was not recording he interaction with the driver so the Fly6 would capture the footage. D'oh!

Two videos:
