There were a number of comments on Facebook saying residents have been complaining about the intersection (Norrie Ave and Gowrie Ave) for years. Looking at Google Maps, Norrie Ave is a main road with a very wide median strip, and Gowrie Ave also has a divider, making it a very "large" intersection.

This was at a T junction where cyclist was on the main road and the truck was required to give way. Visibility should have been clear. Given that the cyclist was coming from the east and this occurred at 7.10am... you can probably guess what excuse will be used.Scott_C wrote:Cyclist killed in a collision with a truck on the Bass Highway near Somerset:

What is the relevance of this? Was the truck driver wearing a back brace?“The cyclist was wearing the correct protective equipment and was wearing a helmet.”
And, what is the correct protective equipment, helmet aside?

When you play the video, you'll see it was just a clumsy response to a strangely worded question:redsonic wrote:Senior Sergeant Jones says:What is the relevance of this? Was the truck driver wearing a back brace?“The cyclist was wearing the correct protective equipment and was wearing a helmet.”
And, what is the correct protective equipment, helmet aside?
Reporter: "Do you understand that the cyclist was wearing the correct protective equipment?"
Policeman: "The cyclist was wearing the correct protective equipment, yes, and was wearing a helmet."

I wonder what a truck proof helmet would look like?AdelaidePeter wrote:When you play the video, you'll see it was just a clumsy response to a strangely worded question:redsonic wrote:Senior Sergeant Jones says:What is the relevance of this? It appears that the young cyclist was on the minor road (Gowrie Ave) and failed to give way to the truck on Norrie Ave. http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/news/law- ... dcb7fd68edAdelaidePeter wrote:Tragically, a 14 year old male cyclist was killed in a collision with a truck in Whyalla yesterday (2 March). http://www.news.com.au/national/south-a ... d668a64381 https://www.police.sa.gov.au/sa-police- ... lla-norrie

"A cyclist has died after crashing his bike into a ditch in the south parklands overnight. The man's body was found in the parklands, a few hundred metres north of Greenhill Road, Unley by a passerby about 12.45pm on Monday 5 March. There are no suspicious circumstances.
The deceased man's identity is yet to be confirmed, however, he is believed to be a 69-year-old man from Unley. Next of kin have been advised. Major Crash investigators are investigating the circumstances that led to the man's death and will prepare a report for the Coroner."
This was probably on or near one of many commuter/casual cycling paths through the Adelaide south parklands. Any death is sad, but it would be particularly tragic if it turned out he couldn't call for help for lack of a phone.
Added: The Channel 7 news says police believe he was riding home at night, strayed off the park and rode into a creek bed

Yes, the reporter would have been desperately hoping that the rider wasn't wearing a helmet so that they could make that the focus of their story (and shift blame as much as possible to the cyclist). Cyclist bashing is "good copy" these days.AdelaidePeter wrote:When you play the video, you'll see it was just a clumsy response to a strangely worded question:redsonic wrote: And, what is the correct protective equipment, helmet aside?

A 5-year old girl riding another bicycle was also involved in the collision but only suffered minor injuries.
The road in question has ~2m wide sealed shoulders marked with bicycle symbols and the photo in the article shows the adult's bicycle jammed under the front of the vehicle with the vehicle up onto the curb (2.5m past the edge of the vehicle lane).

Sadly (well, however happened it's sad) it's hard to avoid the conclusion that the driver simply veered badly and struck the cyclist.Scott_C wrote:A 28 year old cyclist has died a day after a collision in Murray Bridge, SA:

It appears that the little girl might have been riding on the footpath; if so that at least avoided further tragedy.

Hmm, car turning right at the intersection in the background; driver not paying attention; has OMG moment and heads for the footpath.AdelaidePeter wrote:Sadly (well, however happened it's sad) it's hard to avoid the conclusion that the driver simply veered badly and struck the cyclist.

Just before 9.30am, emergency crews responded to reports of an incident involving a car and cyclist on the Riddoch Hwy near Mt Salt Rd at Mount Shank.
The Mt Gambier man, 80, died at the scene.

He will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date."Scott_C wrote:An 80-year old cyclist has died following a collision with a car near Mt Gambier in SA.

I can't work out the exact location from that photo, but that whole stretch of road looks relatively flat and wide in Google Street View.
A terrible year for SA cyclists so far

The uncertainty over if the rider was hit by a vehicle indicates that if a vehicle was involved it was a hit and run.Police are investigating the death of a cyclist in Leeton in the early hours of Sunday.
The 33-year-old man was riding his bike down Currawang Avenue about 2am, when he was struck by a vehicle, police believe.

Yes, flat and good visibility, but generally no shoulder to cycle on. Also, single lane and a 110 km/h limit. There should be a priority in road funding the get a decent shoulder on roads like this!

As far as I can tell, that was Moore Park Road, westbound, just before Cook Road on the left.biker jk wrote:Cyclist struck and killed by motor vehicle near Centennial Park this morning. May he rest in peace.

This looks like the sort of situation that was being discussed on this forum a week or two ago: Moore Park Road there has a dedicated left turn lane but no bicycle lane, so where is a cyclist meant to ride if they wish to go straight ahead?
Tragic.

Sorry, but they shouldn’t be on the roads that are made for vehicles...
Thanks for your input Janelle. Classy as always.

Yes that's where it appears to have happened. The bicycle lane (yes an official one) starts after Cook Rd.AdelaidePeter wrote:As far as I can tell, that was Moore Park Road, westbound, just before Cook Road on the left.biker jk wrote:Cyclist struck and killed by motor vehicle near Centennial Park this morning.
