2006 Trek 5200 vs 2010 Trek 1.1

2006 Trek 5200 vs 2010 Trek 1.1

Postby metrocomps » Wed Jun 26, 2013 9:40 pm

Hi all,

I am only new to cycling and purchased a cheap trek 1.1 which was new old stock. I have since been presented with an offer on a 2006 Trek OCLV 5200 with 10 speed ultegra gear.

My question is am I better off with a new entry level bike or switching to the carbon bike which whilst used I would assume has much better running gear and would be better on the road.

Your thoughts/input would be appreciated.

1.1 has fresh gears, 5200 is Ultegra which is miles better BUT at that age maybe not worth the change. Run your 1.1 into the ground, get your adjustments from the LBS and see how you feel in 6-12 months. You really need to be riding 50-100kms a week to notice much difference (because you are weakest link right now)... Save your pennies, buy some better knicks or a light.
