Delivered by Santa yesterday, my first road bike, Giant Defy Advanced 3 2017.

The flat pedals look out of place on the bike, think road shoes and cleats won't be too far away.

Bike will have its first ride tomorrow. Fingers crossed all goes well.

Can't show you my bike, because it's been at the LBS for a week waiting on a part from Giant :( So no commuting, group rides or training for an upcoming hills event for me.

FYI the mechanic found a small crack in the hydraulic converter unit on my first gen Giant Contend SL1 Disc. I had to provide proof of purchase for the warranty claim, and they're waiting on the part from Giant.

Still, this is why I booked it in for a checkup before the hills event. It wouldn't have been good to have a brake failure on a descent...

Uhhh that seems concerning! - Did the mechanic seem shocked by that discovery? - I want to buy a Contend but this converter puts me off a little bit.

They're still waiting on the part from Giant so I haven't been back in person to get all the details. Should be by the end of the week, hopefully before the weekend!
He mentioned something about a crack where a grub screw goes in? I hadn't noticed any problems with braking in any way. Once I get details I'll let you know what he says.

No idea if it's a one-off as the Contend is such a new model.

The mechanic had to replace the whole Conduct hydraulic converter unit. He said the hairline crack was inside it, where the grub screw inserts and helps adjust the physical brake cable into the plunger (?) thingy that then pumps the hydraulic fluid. So full marks to him to spot a hairline crack, inside an all black component.

Now for my first road ride in 3 weeks tomorrow. The brake throw seems significantly shorter after the service than when I dropped it in so here's hoping I don't lock anything up.

Keen eyed mechanic, may have just saved you from injury. Buy that guy/gal a coffee next time you're nearby.

My 2017 Contend SL1 Disc with new Prime RP-38 carbon clinchers, upgraded Ultegra rotors, and GP4000sII Reflex tyres:

These are the tyres with the camera flash on, should come in handy for early morning riding:

It's my commuting and group ride bike, plus I ride around on this with the kids sometimes, so the pedals are clipless one side and flat on the other. Plus the saddle bag, tool bottle, and Fly6 and Fly12...she ain't no lightweight :)

It hasn't been an "oh my god amazing" life changing experience, but they definitely made the commute easier. In places where I typically gear down or get out of the saddle, I found myself maintaining momentum and not needing to do either of those things.
My average speed was up about 1.5kmh according to Strava. They're only 6mm deeper than the alloy rims so no problems with wind buffeting yet.

So far so good. Saturday morning it'll be the group ride and maybe a hills ride if I get time.

Thanks mate, and bugger regarding the 303's, i did think about them also, but decided on some 202's and now i either throw just the front 202 on for windy days and it works a treat and for lots of hills i put both 202's on

Now that I've done some climbing, I take it back - the new wheels are amazing!!! They're a total game changer for climbing.

It rides fantastic! Power just goes stright into speed. I was riding a scott CR 1 and the 2 cant even be compared. Its the first aero bike i have ridden/owned so cant compare it to any others. However, for the same amount of energy and effort i was 15 mins quicker on my ride to work on this bike!! It is just great. I was told aero bikes can be a bit harsh but i wouldnt agree with that at the moment, mind you i still havent spent a huge amount of time on it or done any rides over 50klm yet.
But for $6999 how could i resist!!

Been wanting a bike with wider tyres and disc brakes, was nearly set on a Specialized Diverge, but the simplicity of Giant Revolt's 1X drivetrain won me over. Plus got a good deal on the 2019 models, same specs but different colour than the 2020.

Looks like quite a big 'rake' on that bike...

I've picked up a cheap hybrid carbon/alloy frame 2008 OCR A.Sport (A for Allliance)
http://web.archive.org/web/201008291559 ... 392/29714/
upgraded to a new 105/5600 groupset and in amazing condition.

Good power transmission, nice comfy ride and handling. It's not super light... just under 9 kgs now, and i put some new white bar tape, and a white Defy seat on it, to take the edge off it's terminal gray-ness.

Geez it's ugly but what a great bike.
