Giant TCR Advanced 2

Giant TCR Advanced 2

Postby robbiepapenfus » Tue Apr 30, 2013 12:09 pm

Hi guys,

I am fairly new to cycling and currently have a Trek Hybrid (FX 7.3), which I have used for commuting for the past year,

I started triathlon training this week and I need to get myself a new road bicycle. Even if I don’t pursue triathlon as a sport, my new road bicycle will become my daily commuter bicycle.

I have been looking online (not advised for your first purchase – but offers good value for money) as well as local bike shops (which seem very overpriced).

However, I did come across a Giant TCR Advanced 2 (2012), which is full carbon fibre with Shimano Ultegra. The price of the bicycle was marked down to $1800 as it was previously used for about a week by one of their riders (I’m not sure what they go for brand new?).

From what I have seen around, does this represent good value for money and will it be a bicycle which will keep me, a first time road bike rider, happy for a number of years?

Feedback regarding the bicycle would also be appreciated.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,
Robbie

Sounds like a good price for a great entry level race bike, I think full rrp was over $3,000. The bike will serve you well, the TCR is a popular model because it represents great value for money, it's a capable race machine and will be fine for commuting too. Go for it!

Great!

I went yesterday and the size was right. Going to take it for a ride tomorrow to make sure.

Although i didnt have all the cash now, they have put it aside for me as i will be paying a 10% deposit and paying the balance off over 2-3 months.

Does it come with an official Giant warranty, same as a new bike? If so, then sounds like you nabbed a bargain!

If it fits you and it comes with a normal warranty then its a very good deal. Check they haven't swapped the wheels or components over for cheaper substitutes.

Just wanted to double check that the Giant TCR Advanced 2 should be fine for Triathlon?

Yes, it will be perfectly fine for triathlon use as it is. If you want to go a bit faster with no extra effort (and want to look like a triathlete) then get some clip-on tt-bars, that's what most newbie triathletes do and it works well.
