N+1? Giant Talon 0 29er

N+1? Giant Talon 0 29er

Postby sir_camel » Fri Sep 27, 2013 9:31 am

So I'm not in the market for a MTB as such but N+1 rules and I'm tempted. Currently a road rider and also have a single speed just for fun. A mate is selling his barely used 2013 Giant Talon 0 29er and has me tempted. He's willing to let it go to me for $650. Should I jump?

Thinking I'll MTB a little bit but also use it as my wet weather commuter.

Any opinions?

Hmmm, you are asking the forum whether you should get another bike? I reckon the answer might be something along the lines of

I know. Foolish question when n+1 comes into the equation.

I guess I'm trying to work out whether the deal is good enough to jump when I don't really need it and whether it's a decent bike.

If it's as little used as you said then it's a good deal, provided you don't want to do anything too hard core with it. The Deore/X7 drivetrain, and the Rockshock fork will give you solid, if unspectacular performance, certainly enough to give you a taste of whether you like the rough stuff to think about upgrading later on. And as a wet weather commuter it will go fine. Wheels aren't amazing, but again as the bike is a taster they do they job of getting you rolling.

My wife rides a 2013 Talon 0 29er and loves it. Had the shifters changed to Shimano Deore because she wanted the gear indicators. It's been totally trouble free and impressed when we did the 20k loop at Ewen Maddock. We paid $1k new so 650 seems a bargain.

Cheers,
Karl

Yes! Good deal and a great intro to the funnest of all forms of riding 8)
