Giant TCR and Tyre Choices

Postby li2099 » Sun Mar 29, 2015 8:28 pm

Hi

Been looking through online to see if the TCR 2013 fits 28c however my googlefu isn't good enough.
If anyone has tried and fitted it, please share it with everyone.
I'm currently running Schwalbe Durano Plus 25c and have wore it down to the blue puncture protection so looking for new tyres.

Currently looking at either:

1. Durano Plus in 28c
2. Marathon Plus in 25c
3. Marathon Plus in 28c.

I ride to work everyday so isn't really bothered by the weight. Most places I ride are your typical bike paths in Sydney where broken beer glass is quite common.

What I can share with everyone is the Durano Plus have been very good for puncture protection.
Just last week I accidentally rode over half a glass beer bottle and it was good enough to stop glass getting through to the inner tube. I just had to pick out the small shads.
Coming from originally riding the Victoria Corsa, I used to get a puncture a month although the Victorias were a lot grippier.

You may struggle to fit 28mm tyres in the frame & fork - the TCR is a racer & its tolerances are pretty tight.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

Yes I thought about that.
I've gone from stock 23c Giant to 25c and have never looked back so was just wondering if 28c is also possible for even more grip and comfort.

I have run Maxxis Re-Fuse 28's on my 2014 SL without any issues whatsoever, did it for my dirt/gravel Everest and suffered no rub and had just enough clearance. I can't answer if any of the tires you mentioned would work but the Re-Fuse do. When it comes to comfort and grip it was obviously better for 286 ks on the dirt but 25's (I use Panaracer Type D and Conti GP 4000s II) offer just as good comfort for the road.

28c 4 seasons fit in my 2014 defy advanced 1

I'm not positive but I believe the defy and tcr are similar in this regard

The Defy does have more clearance.
