Show Us Your Giant Mountain Bike

Postby Duck! » Sat Dec 05, 2015 11:51 pm

We have the Roadie thread, so to go alongside I figured we need a place to show off your Giant MTBs.

To start, here's my race beast:

Image

2011 Anthem X Advanced SL. The frame is painted for the 0 model, but the bulk of the running gear is the step down 1 model, to which I've done a few tweaks. The Giant-branded aluminium bar, stem & seatpost (with its Fizik Tundra saddle attached) got swapped with the carbon counterparts and Fizik Gobi saddle from my aluminium Anthem. The M775 XT brakes also got swapped with the M666 SLX Ice Tech units (mechanically identical to the M785 XT brakes). It's currently wearing a M675 SLX clutched rear derailleur in place of the stock M773, and the M775 XT wheelset has just been replaced with a set of custom-built (by me :-) ) carbon wheels on M9000 XTR hubs. The suspension components remain the stock Fox Float RP23 rear shock and Fox F100 FIT RLC fork.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

Nice - perfect spec and the blue forks add just the right amount of bling ;)

Here's my baby - sadly don't seem to have a recent trailside shot. 2012 Anthem 0 29er...

Image

...with just a few changes from stock:
  • Cracked frame replaced with 2014 1 model (gloss black, with a metallic fleck that matches the bars perfectly...)
  • Crank Bros Cobalt wheels - level 2 (rear) and 3 (front) (don't ask... :()
  • Crank Bros Cobalt bars - almost identical to the shape and sweep of the originals, which I stupidly cut down a tad enthusiastically. But carbon, and quite nice.
  • SRAM X0 Grip Shift shifters, with X9 Type 2 RD
  • XT M-780 Ice-tec brakes
  • Selle Itallia SLR Max saddle
Next planned upgrade is a single narrow-wide chainring and 42T sprocket...

Lovely bikes guys - and here's a blast from the past. Where it all began for Giant with carbon fibre dual suspension - my old later '90's MCM D-980 with SPIN wheels

Pretty wild suspension design there, with the shock placement. :D

But otherwise a very modern suspension geometry, with the pivot for the rear swingarm mounted in line with the middle ring. I reckon that bike is well ahead of its time.

my current ride is a 2014 trance1 all stock besides tyres. Hans Damf on the front and WTB wolverine on the rear. a couple of Xeccon 1000 lumen lights ( one spot one wide angle) mounted to the handle bars via ally brackets. lights are rock solid and dont slide around the bar like they do with the rubber band. batteries velco onto the top tube and dont move.

looking at upgrading to the 2017 Advanced 1 when it comes out. :D

I did eventually get around to going 1×10 with an Absoluteblack round ring - just using a standard cassette for now with no issues.

No photos on my phone, but here's a shot from the Goldfields Track earlier this year - somewhere south of Castlemaine.

(Non-drive side out... shameful ;) )

Had this for about 18 months now after getting it for a steal at a nearby LBS.

Was never a fan of SRAM so slow upgraded brakes and shifting.

-XTR 1x11 M9000 (XT M8000 crank and cassette)
-M8000 brakes
-Thomson XC Carbon bars
-Selle Italia SuperFlow SLR Saddle
