Yeah, of course. There are local pricing differences, but using a direct multiplier for like to like bikes does give an idea. The USA prices for like for like were also 0.7x for mid range bikes but almost 1:1 for the high end in each cat, with .AU almost cheaper on some.

I chose the fancy new Anthem 29er for price guessing as it the only true new bike. General trend, as you noted above, is a slight reduction in some spec, with maybe a small increase in price here and there and the usual spec change over for model years.

Good to see lots of 12s stuff coming out on all the brands in the MTB area.

Just announced in the bike media today, and mentioned earlier in this thread as a suspicion, the Reign gets a full work-over, for those into the heavier-duty end of the MTB scene. In a similar vein to its smaller siblings released last year, the new bike is longer, lower and slacker than before, and with revised suspension geometry that gives a longer shock stroke for the same wheel travel, which boosts system stability and is easier to fine-tune.

The Glory full-noise downhill sled should, by my reckoning, also be due for an update but nothing has yet been announced on that front.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

Do you know if the new Anthem 29ers mean that there will no longer be 27.5 Anthems in 2018?

I'm only 160cm, and looking to replace my 2009 Anthem X (XS/14.5 inch size, 26 inch wheels).

I doubt I'd fit a 29er, so perhaps I'd better get a 2017 Anthem before it's too late.
As I suspected, the 27.5" Anthems do continue into 2018. However, complete bolt out of the blue and as a shorter person this may be of interest to you, as part of the 2018 range officially launched locally today Giant have introduced a Trance Jr: targeted primarily at the youth sector, it's designed with a rider height range of about 145-165cm, so could appeal to smaller adults too. Featuring the same Maestro suspension platform of all Giant's good MTBs, the Trance Jr has 120mm travel at both ends and rolls on 26" wheels - very similar in fact to the Trances of old, which are now virtually matched by the modern Anthems.....

Got me buggered how a top level road bike is priced higher than a top level MTB?

Love how MTB's have more tech and but road riders will pay more for less tech.

Some pricing trickling through now

Reign Aly (2) $3799
Reign Carbon $6499 (1) & $8999 (0) - which prolly means the Anthem Adv Pro 29er $5999 (1) & $8999 (0)

The DA TCR SL disc is going to be way exxy at around $10k+

The TCR Advanced SL 0 in Dura-Ace Disc, and Dura-Ace Di2 and SRAM Red eTap rim brakes include the respective component manufacturers' power meter cranks, which helps put the prices into perspective, and probably tips the overall value in bike's favour when you consider that's a substantial aftermarket purchase one does not need to factor in.

The biggest surprise is probably that there are no Propels.

Yet.....

It's probable that the new Propel will be released as a mid-season model, which incidentally the original was too. Given UCI's rules around prototype equipment used by race teams being required to be released to market within a certain time frame (nine months I believe), and at least one Propel Disc being ridden in the Tour, expect to see it maybe around January.

On the MTB front, we miss out on the mid-spec Anthem Advanced 29er, which has a carbon mainframe /aluminium rear, but we get the "base" full aluminium and full carbon Advanced Pro models.

Full info should be up on Giant's site by the end of the week, if it's not all up yet.

I should have screen grabbed it because its gone now from the website :?:

Not fussed about the Propels now .. atleast the rim types. The paintjobs shown on the OS websites are ghastly*

Italy doesn't care, they are shown there, for the rim brake version at least.

Other notes of some interest to errr some, particular lower range Defy are ditching Shimano disc brakes for Giants home grown efforts and there is a general push to tubeless.

Looking forward to seeing the disc propel pricing. Is a 105 level mech shift + hydro disc propel with hidden cables and decent paint too much to ask?

Is that their "Conduct" blobby hydraulic converter unit like I've got on my Contend road bike? Mechanical shifters feeding into a hydraulic converter at the stem?
Or have they come up with a different in-house system this year?

We last got the Defy Advanced SL in the '16 range.

It's quite normal for the Australian office to decide not to bring in models that are available elsewhere in the world.

Goodness. $6k (up 10% from 2017 models) for the Defy now and you get an (personally) boring/ugly paint job for the $.

Heh, I was spot on with my Athem Adv 29er prices.

Dont quote me on this but I think, at least where the TCR Advanced Pro in concerned it reverted back to the 2016 price of $3999 ... maybe the new R8000 groupset is partly to blame.

What I think looks ace though are TCR Advanced Pro Disc colourways, and im not even a disc fan. Still, the lack of cable integration in the front fork just seems lazy imo.

I recall them saying it was done because they didn't want to add weight into the fork. Just about everyone else runs internal so it's likely since they pressed the disc button first, they'll be in catch up mode and rectify on the next frame/fork redesign because as you say it just doesn't fit with the rest.

The covers are off!!

Hitting the bike media today is what we've all been expecting, the 2018 Propel. In a bold move, it's all disc-brake, no rim brakes to be seen (those mentioned previously on some of Giant's European are new paint jobs on the old frame, largely because sales departments in those regions were afraid of the all-disc plan from the factory). A bold commitment given its three-year development, with little decisiveness from UCI regarding disc brakes for much of that time.

Four models; two Advanced SL, one each Advanced Pro and "entry level" Advanced. The Advanced features Shimano R8020 Ultegra mechanical shift/hydro brakes, the Advanced Pro and Advanced SL 1 both run R8070 Ultegra Di2/hydro brakes, while the top-flight Advanced SL 0 wears R9170 Dura-Ace Di2/hydro, including power meter crank. As with the old series, Advanced SL uses an integrated seatpost, while the Advanced frame (only the fork separates the Pro from the regular Advanced) uses an adjustable post.

Aus RRP ranges from $4999 for the entry advanced, up to an eye-watering $11999 for the Advanced SL 0 , but as with the similar-spec TCRs, the power meter crank does contribute a hefty chunk of that cost.

No word yet on availability.

The Defy Advanced (not Pro model) uses Giant's own brand Conduct hydraulic system rather than Shimano hydraulic brakes on the Pro models. I wonder if they've managed to shrink that hydraulic unit at all over my Contend SL1

No, it's exactly the same system. There isn't a great deal of reduction that can be done, given it houses two hydraulic cylinders, one for each brake.

Someone may have mentioned this already, but I just noticed the 2018 TCR range are using 11-30 cassettes matched with a 52/36 whereas the 2017 bikes used 11-28. Even on the Pro 0 with Dura-Ace. That makes my skinny legs happy :)
