Bicycles Network Australia - Relaunched

Postby AUbicycles » Wed Dec 24, 2008 11:32 am

The new Bicycles Network Australia website has just been launched.

Image

After 8 months of conception, planning, design and development the new site features a powerful backend to support a new dynamic cycling directory and the news and articles section. You can read more about the details here Be rest assured, the forum will remain. Planned is a redesign of the header area however the functionality and operation of the forum will stay.

--

Thank you all for your support, friendship and good ideas. (Extra special thanks to the mods, Extra Extra special thanks to my team). Realistically, I expect the forum to still be your first stop - though the main site is a useful resource and I am sure you will be return often.

--

Feedback?
Certainly - as always I am happy to get your comments, both positive and critical. Enjoy... and happy riding.

Looks great. I loved the pic of the person rushing home to get on the forum.

For the Advocacy and BUGS pages:-
The "filter by NEW SOUTH WALES" selects only 5 of the 8 entries currently existing for NSW

There are many BUGS in NSW not listed, such as Bicyce NSW, and Bike North

CAMWEST does not show in filter by NSW. CAMWEST covers the metropolitan regions from around Parramatta west to Penrith and Richmond/Windsor areas, and Holroyd to Baulkham Hills and Castle Hills LGA. Postcode and map puts location in the Sydney CBD. if map is postcode driven, then change to put map to somewhere from Parramatta to Blacktown

Bike North BUG, (one of the largest, if not the largest in NSW) covering Hornsby, Hunters Hill, Ku-ring-gai, Willoughby, North Sydney & Ryde council areas.

NSW Bicycle User Groups are listed at http://www.pushon.com.au/Admin/listBUGs.asp. PushOn is the Bicycle NSW's Online publication and BUGS Rides Calendar Website. Over 65 listed

Bicycle Shop/Brands and Manufacturers/Importers and Distributers Categories directory:-
Filter by sub-categories as well as state or all states:
Shops - by retail, online, mailorder
Brands - by bicycles, components, accessories, services(such as frame building, repairs, painting, bike-fit)
      etc
A-Z quick find index, always active for more than 1 page

User selectable count of entries per page displayed (e.g. 10, 20, 50, 100, all) (all allows for browser page searching within the displayed page)

Thanks for the first round of feedback - keep it coming.

Caelum - I know. You will be on my 'board of advisors' when we tackle the forum update.

Mikeg - Thank you for your detailed feedback. I actually had someone working for weeks entering all the listings - sometimes when BUG, shop etc etc was missing certain information it was excluded. While the shops section is comprehensive, many other sections can certainly be expanded upon. I will look into the NSW filter.

You other ideas are good and I have added them to my list for review.

Cheers
Christopher

Hey Chris,

Just noticed that in the 'New Listings' and 'Articles' section on the front page, the links to each sub-section seem to have been chopped off slightly at the top. Not a major issue, but slightly annoying.

Might be my set-up, or not enough space allocated to each frame.

Looks fine on my mac and firefox though :)

Don't worry, I am not a mac envangelist, neither apple nor microsoft have been very kind to me so I will get this checked out - though hope you can wait until the new year.

Cheers

What? You want me to wait for you to fix up this glaring error? I need to see the whole link, not 99.999% of it. How can I be expected to put up with this?

Yeah, I can wait. :P

The problem Kev reported was not observed under,
Mac: Safari, Firefox (3.1b2).
WinXP SP3: IE7, Firefox (3.1b2)

Otherwise I note that under,
Bicycles.net.au > Australian Cycling Directory > Brands and Manufacturers > Afghanistan

There are two listings. Neither of which had addresses in Afghanistan.
Bianchi, Ridley, Montague, GT, Garmin and All things Apple :)

So who is telling the programmers to take the beer and champagne back out of the fridge and that New Years is cancelled... not me :)

Afghanistan .. it happens to be the first country on our list so is not infact a mistake but a show of moral support with the people of Afghanistan.. though I will correct this shortly.

Cheers

Chris, everyone knows programmers live on a steady diet of coke, tim tams, and potato chips.

Beer and champagne are rarely consumed by those living in a binary world.
