Just got on at home 5pm and had trouble loading any page for 5-6mins. Has (obviously) just come good.

Bad, real bad. Failed connections and/or graphics on pages are loading haphazardly.

Some random thoughts based on a trace route.

Tracing route to www.bicycles.net.au [203.19.59.81]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 * * * Request timed out.
2 * * * Request timed out.
3 35 ms 37 ms 39 ms 10.0.1.33
4 41 ms 49 ms 39 ms AS38220.sydney.pipenetworks.com [218.100.2.8]
5 37 ms 39 ms 39 ms border-48i-alx.sisgroup.com.au [122.252.0.252]
6 139 ms 149 ms 119 ms srv17.digitalpacific.com.au [203.19.59.80]
7 * * * Request timed out.
8 * * * Request timed out.
9 * * * Request timed out.

I assume it's being hosted by digitalpacific as that's where your nameservers are.

.80 is a web server which I assume forwards you to the real web server at .81? 80 responds to icmp but 81 doesn't. But digging a little you see .81 is really csrv17.digitalpacific.com.au which looks like it's the front end to the sites hosted there http://csrv17.digitalpacific.com.au/ So I'd be asking if anyone else on that server was having issues. Maybe check them out when this site goes down to see if it's a whole server related problem or just your virtual space. Here are some domains that share the webserver
alpacaclothing.com.au, alphalaw.com.au, bicycles.net.au, forum.hemptastic.com.au, hemptastic.com.au, martyfriedel.com
mjfmultimedia.com.au, morias.org.au, oddsandbetting.com, oramacommunications.com.au, saeoceania.org.au
thepokerhour.com, tritaris.net

The SIS Group hop does that mean they host the DigitalPacific servers dedicated server? If so if you know of other sites hosted by them and DP it might worthwhile seeing if they are having similar issues.

Thank you everyone - I actually referred my host to this thread so they can track if there are problems - so all efforts in posting are appreciated.

Rockford, thank you as well - you know a bit more than I do however I can confirm that I have used one of the other customer sites as a reference to ensure that it isn't an issue isolated to BNA - When I get problems, I load up the other site and get the same slow loads or connection refused errors at exactly the same time - which effectively says that there is an issue outside of my control. While I am not 100% ruling out that it is somehow related to this site and the two systems running (forum and CMS) - the problems were not present on the other server (before the upgrade 3 weeks ago) so there is a configuration or compatibility issue.
--

Current Status:
I have feedback from the host that it may be a port issue and that the port (on the switch) has been changed and the network cable will be swapped with a new one.

In addition, more memory has been allocated to php and the server was rebooted at 20:03 (GMT +1100) (17.03.2009).

So the next round begins - If you experience problems from now one, please report them here

Thank you
Christopher

Thanks for the update, things are going fine so far this morning (but then again they were fine all morning/early afternoon yesterday too). More memory sounds more promising than a new network cable , let's hope it's ok now.

Slow as a dog since approx 19:00 tonight. Just got to the point of reliably loading pages so I can post in the thread. Frustrating because my fave site is playing up and loads more frustrating for Chris. Hope the frigging host sorts this out soon  .

Yes - I was getting long delays again
Wednesday 18.2009 7:55 - 7:58pm UTC/GMT +11 hours

Checked three other sites on the same server - which also experienced these delays, plus the host main site (a different server) and some other independent Australian sites - problems limited to the BNA server.

Cheers
Christopher

I quite often have problems connecting after I have left the forum and gone surfing somewhere else...seems that sometimes restarting the computer allows me straight back in?.
