Customise the Look and Feel of the BNA Forums

Postby AUbicycles » Tue Mar 31, 2009 6:22 am

In March 2009 the BNA forums were updated to the newest version of phpBB - the forum platforum. This was done without notice and with the new forums - the look and feel doesn't suit everyones taste. While the standard design will firstly stay as is (it is a question of time to customise it), there are two other design variations available - as a registered user you can set your preferred style and can view the same forum in the different style (or skin).

What styles are available?

Image This is the current standard design

Image Close to the old forums - avatar on the left, easier to read posts and the same functionality. Button positions are different.

To change the Style:

1) Select User Control Panel
2) Select Board Preferences tab
3) Select the board style in the pull down
4) Click Submit

One problem with the subsilver2 style, the font size seemed to have got lowered. Can it be brought back up by 2-3 points?

That's the hard thing, so many cool new features.

sogood, it won't happen quickly, however I will include it in my to do list.

Well, not really. Just wanted the avatar on the left side.

No hurry with the font as I'm settling in with Prosilver Special at the moment. 8)

Hi Guys,

i'm not sure if this is the best place for it but is there a way to set the default size of the font on the forums? I can change the font size in my web browser which works for most websites but Forums are obviously overriding it. I can use the zoom settings in the browser but that must be done every single time you open your browser. It would be nice to be able to set the font size in your user control panel.

Hi Sleeprequired,

I am afraid there is no easy solution to this.
A trick on mac is "Apple" and "+" key to increase the text (or minus key to reduce it). On PC it has to be pretty similar.

out of interest, is the font size too small or too large for you. Do you know your screen resolution (eg 1024 x 768)

Cheers

ON a PC, hold Ctrl and roll the mouse wheel to alter the sizing.

If you use the firefox browser it even remembers the text size you used last for particular web pages.

too small.... screen res of 1920 *1200 on a 17" ... setting font sizes is easy but forums set their own. i'm fine with say google and my banking. Of course i'm aware you can zoom but i'd like a way for it to remember the zoom setting for longer than the current browser session.

Not tried Chrome, must be a rocket to whip the 'Fox. I'm a recent convert, Exploder is pen an' paper in comparison...

there's a mod to fix IE8 that makes it go faster.... opening new tabs basically stalls it for 3 or 4 seconds unless you do the mod...
