24.04.2014 Forum Downtime and Update

Postby AUbicycles » Fri Apr 25, 2014 1:48 am

From about 6pm there was a technical problem which caused access problems for many visitors and members.
It was an external issue with communication between cloudflare (a service used) and the server as the actual server performance and access was fine.

During the downtime an update was planned and started. The update was successful although a database optmisation could not be successfully completed (which typically helps improve speed).

Access during the update was restricted or blocked. If there are issues from the update, please report here.

Cloudflare... was this related to the Heartbleed encrtption keys bug? Should we be resetting our passwords?

Yeah, best to wait until after OpenSSL's been patched before changing.

The vulnerability could never target a particular part of a web server, as I understand it. As an attacker you got a random 64k of whatever was in its RAM, but in theory this could include the private key.

I understood from Cloudflare that they were able to protect from the vunerability.

There tech feedback was that they noticed a connection error - so is as suspected, something on their end.

Cheers
