Postby BugsBunny » Wed Aug 10, 2016 3:39 pm

Hi guys

I have a SRAM 11 speed chain with PowerLink. POWERLOCK

Any tips on how to "open" the chain?

I presume that 11spd is the same as 10spd which has a power lock rather than a power link.

It is intended for a one time use, IOW fit the chain and then use bolt cutters at the end of its life.

Cheers,

Cameron

I got the tool (its free shipping padding from the UK sites)

I tried the plier tool shown above, couldn't get it to work. Also I can not always close the link with my hands especially if its a new one. I am just putting it out there that the link used in the video has been open/closed a few times making it loose.

Didn't try the bent spoke way, but I suspect you would be bending and rebending that thing into shape everytime you use it.

I carry only basic tools whilst on tour, and since I'm changing from 9sp to 10sp I had to be sure it would work.

Easily opened a new and tight Powerlock with a Leatherman Wave.
