All finally in stock and ready to go if you're keen. I'm moderately keen. A bit too committed to 10 speed for my liking right now though... Anyone dumping some cheap 10spd UDI2?

Since I've already got 6800 I'm only after the upgrade kit. Will wait a bit longer till all the big retailers stock it and see what prices they offer on individual parts or an upgrade only option.

Yep if I pulled the trigger it would not include brakes or crank either. Seems strange they want to include the crank all the time when lots of people silly enough to spend 1500 on a groupset would also be silly enough to buy a crank powermeter (especially the TT groups!). My quarq is definitely not going because they sent me a new crank.

I'm sure you would have seen bikebug sells the upgrade kit for $1300 but with the normal battery whereas I want the seatpost battery.

I am not too sure about pulling out the seat post to recharge when the OEM can be charged via the junction i believe

Trying to find the tech docs for mechanical 6800 - anyone know if they are available online? The leaflets that come with the groupset all say to refer to Shimano tech docs and I'm buggered if I can see them on Shimano's website.

Seen some banter on FB about 11spd
-10 speed hubs can be converted by shaving off 1mm on a lave
-Miche have an 11 speed cassette which some of the posters said fitted on a 10 speed hub though I couldn't see the documentary evidence myself

petal665 has a thread on here somewhere about dremel-ing his hub for 11 speed compatibility.

I got lucky - had my old mavic aksiums
turns out it can do 11speed by removing the spacer - anyway saved me a new wheelset
other wheelset DT240s rear hub - $140 for a new 11speed freehub body ... geez the cost just adds up .. now I'm also going to need a second 11speed cassette methinks

BTW battery in the seatpost for all others out there scratching their heads

just remove the 18T or the 11t (and use a 12t lockring). Then upgrade wheels when you can afford it.

Ha, this 11spd spacing is a mystery, what is different between 11spd and 10spd or 8/9spd ?

8-& 9-sp. have the same overall cassette width, so to get the extra gear in the sprockets are both thinner and closer together. 10-sp. is a teensy bit wider overall, but with narrower sprocket spacing, so fits on the same cassette body, however the inner sprocket is dished toward the spokes a bit to make it all fit. Just to confuse things, Shimano designed their relatively short-lived 10-sp. specific freehubs with a shorter cassette body than 8/9-sp, so the cassettes need a thin spacer when fitted to 8/9-sp. hubs to ensure a secure fit. 11-sp. cassettes are wider than 10-sp. by virtually a whole sprocket + spacer width, but not quite, with slightly narrower spacing between them, resulting in a longer freehub body. 8,9 & 10-sp. cassettes can be fitted to an 11-sp. wheel by means of a 1.9mm spacer (+the extra for 10-sp) to fill the gap.

By sheer fluke, for reasons known only to Mavic their Shimano-pattern cassette body has always been overlength, requiring a 2mm spacer behind any cassette, plus the 10-sp. one. So this means that Mavic hubs are the only ones that pre-date Shimano 11-sp. that are compatible with it.

i thought it was because they laced the hub the same for both shimano and campag. then they required a longer freehub for the shimano and added a spacer

It would be more related to the whopping great lobes to house the spoke heads on some models, and fitting cassettes around them than purely the lacing pattern, 'cos otherwise evey other wheel manufacturer would need spacers on their hubs, but they don't.

Still doesn't really explain why they didn't just machine the splines to the right length.

Aren't Mavic French? You wouldn't be asking that question if they are French.
