What a load of hoopla about 52-36 chainrings and 11 speed. You don't need a new crank design to do that Shimano. Just do what Campagnolo did and make some new rings for your existing design. Which is also better looking IMO.

Such a great design that SRAM even copied it.

^^ I think the point was that they wanted to reduce crank weight, and in the process discovered that they could do compact and standard cranks via the same BCD. Ultimately, it's about choice and convenience. Shimano is the MAJOR OEM supplier, and this will make life easier for the rest of us.

I don't normally pay a lot of attention to product cycles etc, so I'm just wondering if anybody has an educated guess/opinion on when we might be likely to see a revised Ultegra Di2 system?

I'm (very) slowly building up a new frameset at the moment, and now I'm torn on what to do with the groupset! :?

Hopefully they pull the trigger on hydro as well as UDi2 in July?

If the new mechanical Ultegra is slated for Sep release i'd guess Di2 will follow a month or two later. I'm sure Shimano are trying to get it out on 2014 bikes but as with the new Dura ace I suspect the first bikes with it on them won't hit our shores till early 2014.

It is pretty average actually, as is DA 7900. DA 7800 is streets ahead of both, haven't ridden with DA 9000 to compare.
I haven't ridden DA 9000, but built a few bikes with it, and it's vastly superior to 7900 (which along with its 6700 & 5700 derivatives is definitely a backward step from its predecessor). It's reasonable to expect, given Shimano's history of trickling down through the groupsets, that 6800 will be a very similar jump in the right direction.

(My roadie is specced with 6600 Ultegra, and that too is a heap smoother than 7900/6700/5700).
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

Shimano released photos on their own Farcebook page today, so the wraps are officially off. Interestingly, the hydro brakes (including Di2 shifters) go under the name R785 rather than Ultegra, so they're being marketed as parallel components, rather than incorprated in the main groupset.

The "E-Tube" wiring means that they're compatible with all Di2 kits except the original 7970 Dura Ace series.

Nice ...

I'll be ordering myself a set as soon they start actually hitting the shelves

My poor frame was starting to look a bit sad without any groupset attached!
