Dura Ace SL-7900 downtube shifters

The boss that goes between the frame and the shifter in product images I've seen is flat:

will this be an issue fitting the shifter on a old skinny tubed steel frame that would use curved bosses such as below? or will the flat boss work fine, but not look as nice since it's not flush against the round tube?

The boss in the second photo is included in the package. The flat part in the first photo is part of the shifter mechanism. These shifters work very nicely indeed.
