DA9000 cassette noise

Postby mrgolf » Tue Dec 16, 2014 11:39 am

Hi all. I know there was an issue with the top 4 gears in the cassette with noise associated with the ti cogs and carbon carrier which was remedied with an extra rivet being added.

I have some graunching noise coming from the cassette under out of the saddle accelerations. I have tried tightening it up more, adjusting rear mech, different wheels etc. I can't get rid of it. It seems worse some times than at other times.

Any thoughts? Similar issues? I should add it is not confined to the top 4 ratios. It's throughout the gear range.

Change to a different cassette (try an Ultegra) and see if that fixes it.

If you have done all that the noise is unlikely to be generated by the cassette and it's time to look further afield such as the free hub, jockey wheels, or whatever is flexing and rubbing as a result of you getting out of the saddle.

can you setup a gopro etc on the seatpost looking down at the gears, and go for a ride to reproduce the fault. might show whats causing said noises.

Haven't found anything untoward with my DA9000 cassette - well, no noisier than the Ult6800 cassettes I have on other bikes.

Good luck in workingit out.

The carbon inner spindle hasn't broken/cracked has it...?

Cheers for the replies. Will check the spindle tonight. Anyone ever put grease on cassette body? Have read of this elsewhere but seems undesirable.

It may sound silly but have you checked you bidon cage is tight? I had a noise on my bike that I thought was coming from the rear wheel area and it turned out the cage was a bit loose.
