Pedals - Ultegra vs 105
Postby jbnz » Mon Feb 15, 2016 7:29 pm
I have an ultegra groupset but is it really worth spending extra over the $89 105 5800 pedals for Ultegra ones?

Get a power meter on! Be awesome, unless of course you already have one.

Considering it costs as much as my bike I'll stick with the standard pedals..softy wrote:Powertap P1,

Probably not in outright benefit, but what price a matching group?
I'd do it, it's only an extra $30

Yep expensive i know, but the best data you can get on a bike (pacing tool), it is instant and is unaffect by other influences. I am saving my pennies for one now. The powertap p1 is really a nice bit of kit!jbnz wrote:Considering it costs as much as my bike I'll stick with the standard pedals..softy wrote:Powertap P1,

And largely unnecessary for average punters.softy wrote:Yep expensive i know, but the best data you can get on a bike (pacing tool), it is instant and is unaffect by other influences. I have both (5700 and 6700 series) and while there are differences, they are not impacting my ride comfort or performance. Unless you have a compelling reason to go for Ultegra, I don't think you would be missing-out if you go for the 105's.jbnz wrote:I have an ultegra groupset but is it really worth spending extra over the $89 105 5800 pedals for Ultegra ones?

Definitely for mountain bikes. I would not bother again. For the roadie, it is useful, but only if you have an objective for which you need the data. For JRA, it's an expensive toy.Duck! wrote:And largely unnecessary for average punters.softy wrote:Yep expensive i know, but the best data you can get on a bike (pacing tool), it is instant and is unaffect by other influences. Same here and in addition I have 5800 and 6800 versions too. No difference between any of them on the road that I can feel. I wish you could still get current 105 or higher metal pedals though rather than polycarbonate or CF. Primarily for aesthetics on retro frames.AUbicycles wrote:I have both (5700 and 6700 series) and while there are differences, they are not impacting my ride comfort or performance. 105 5700 pedals in silver are an item I wish I stocked up on for my steelies/silver cranked bikes..Boognoss wrote: I wish you could still get current 105 or higher metal pedals though rather than polycarbonate or CF. Primarily for aesthetics on retro frames.
