replacement shimano bar end shifter grips

Postby metalrideroz » Sat Mar 05, 2016 12:01 pm

Does anyone know if it is possible to purchase replacement grip/cap things that go on the end of shimano bar end shifters?
They are the 9 speed type as pictured. Thanks.

I think you might be out of luck.
The Shimano Dealers Manual exploded view of the shifters doesn't show the cover as being a separate part. Nor does the diagram show the lever by an individually identified part no.
I had to glue one of mine back on with puncture adhesive. It came partly off on tour on a hot day.

The grip/cover has never been available as a spare part, so getting creative is really your only easy solution.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

Update incase anyone else has the same problem. Search ebay in cycling for "Reg" or "NOS Reg". There are some vintage grip things made for skewers or downtube shifters. They slide on tight enough to stay put without any adhesive, not a perfect fit but work well enough.
