I would spend a little more on the pedals if you can. 105 ones are light years ahead of the base model ones and still not too expensive.

80g difference between the XT and Ultegra pedals. Not sure about the weights of the cleats however we are talking bees whiskers here.

80g is huge in roadie world. I'll admit I'm not a massive weight weenie but I do have a cost/gram spreadsheet. From the perspective pedals were pretty cost effective after tyres. I'll agree though, if I didn't already have them, spd would be preferred.

No offense is intended. I've had spreadsheets for computer overclocking and I was definately a computer geek back then. I've also had spreadsheets for, car costs (that one backfired), rock climbing cam expansion range and countless other things.

But yeah, surely anybody who describes 80g as huge qualifies as a weight weenie.

Interestingly I also have a cam timing/combustion spreadsheet and have made one for each car I have owned. But yes, the finance based ones do fail spectacularly.

- MTB: Flats - I need to chuck the bike when I want to. I've done some longer endurance rides with cleats but I've stopped since the mud clags badly - much easier with flats.

Thanks for taking it in good humour. After some previous antagonism in this thread I did fear a little that offence could be taken.

My finance one worked well, But badly for my upgraditis I was driving alot for work at one stage so I started a spreadsheet to financially justify a newer car. It was all looking good until I included an LPG conversion for the current car in the spreadsheet. That shot to the top as the financially solution.

So I'm not running on LPG and from a financial perspective it was a great idea. Considering I'm now rarely driving it has all turned out just fine. Though my car is 25 years old which is almost classic car territory these days!

I didn't realise what a small weight difference it is. Even less if XTR one's are available 2nd hand.
