Dumb question time. The Ultegra 6800 Chainset and the 6850 chainsets are exactly same aren't they? I'm not missing something am I?

yeah I mean besides the obvious sizes. I'm just not sure why its listed as a 6850 chainset different to the 6800 (actually I always thought the crank model was 6850). ??
So are the compacts known as 6850s ? Is that what it is...

The **00 and **50 designations were important when they had different BCDs, but not so much now they both have the same 4 arm, 110BCD design. Only difference is in chainring selection.

Yup. There is no such thing as FC-6850, for precisely this reason - unlike previous generations, the crank itself is the same for all chainring combinations. It's not the first time the online mobs have used non-existent or patently incorrect model numbers for things.cyclotaur wrote:The **00 and **50 designations were important when they had different BCDs, but not so much now they both have the same 4 arm, 110BCD design. I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.
