Hi All,
I have a jammed shifter and suspect it may need replacement so am looking for either a left hand (front derailleur ) or a pair in working order. (My understanding is you can only use a 7900 shifter with the 7900 derailleur but if anyond knows otherwise i would be interested to hear. )
Cheers
Glenn

Incorrect. You can use ANY shifter with the front derailleur, but those from the 11-sp. groups are not an ideal match, but can be tuned to work acceptably. The rear will work with any Shimano 10-sp. shifter EXCEPT 4700 Tiagra.Shadowcat wrote:(My understanding is you can only use a 7900 shifter with the 7900 derailleur but if anyond knows otherwise i would be interested to hear. )

What you're better off doing is putting on a set of 4600 Tiagra shifters, which are cosmetically tweaked 7800 Dura-Ace, and much better shifters than the fairly ordinary 7900s.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

I'm wondering why your shifter has jammed?
Sure there isn't a frayed or broken bit of cable causing the problem?
Has any knowledgeable person looked at it?
You could try squirting a large amount of WD40 (or similar) into the guts.
It has been known to free up dodgy shifters.
Can you move the derailleur by hand ie. grab the derailleur cage and try and move it manually back and forth.

My left shifter (front derailleur) is jammed too. Even with the cable loosen from the derailleur, the big shifter (to move to big ring), is kind of stuck and only occasionally able to be pushed to the right. Feels like something is stuck.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
