It is a 9spd XT derailler, this works fine with 10 spd road, I understand the shadow type can have some issues, not sure so I got the standard one. You can still buy 9spd XT no issues.

Yep

8 or 9sp mtb has the same pull rate as 8/9/10sp shimano road

They changed the 10sp mtb for some reason so you will need to buy either an 8 or 9sp mtb rear derailler

Give it a try but I don't like your chances

You should have no problems getting a swap in the member to member market section

I run a 10 speed XT, standard spring model... The only issue is you need an inline cable adjuster as 10 speed has no adjustment on the derailleur.

I have been doing some research and if you space the cable out by 6mm at the bolt it works fine.

I have about 4 or 5 weeks before I can actually try it though. And I am tossing up about making my SS 29er in to 1x10 and using the parts on that.

This shot was taken looking over the Yarra Valley on a ride run by Melbourne Gravel Grind.

Yep. "Drive" should be spelled "Ride" ;-)

Was this the one that was on Gumtree? Was so tempted by it. You have yourself a beautiful bike there.

Yeah the seller was in Sydney. Was lucky enough to be able to view it in person then got it boxed and sent up to Brisbane for me. Stoked with it so far.

Picked up my new 2014 Merida Cyclocross 5 today. Got the set up done and will hopefully go for a ride on the street tomorrow.
I'll be posting more pics [close ups], videos and reviews soon. Love the anticipation of getting a new bike.....

Didn't know it existed. Points deducted from me....

It really is a nice bike with the matt black frame, with silver and yellow highlights. I'm going to ride the cyclocross tyres for a while and also take it 'off-piste' to see how it goes, then will swap them for some 700x28 tyres of some commuting description.

Re: Trek Crocket

Postby Fletch » Sun Mar 23, 2014 7:59 pm

Just thought I'd post an up date on the Crocket now that Ive done quite a few km's on him.

I have upgraded the bars to some 3T carbon ergonova's the little extra width nice off road. Have also popped on a thompson layback post just to get me a tad further back. Also swapped the stem for a white rxl, free changeover at Hendry's, although its a better stem it had a slight scratch which is hidden by my garmin anyway.

Have ground out some dirt road km's and some on the road, bike is comfortable, smooth and quite quick.
Has also spent a bit of time in the You Yangs, it flys around the Kurrajong, litrally in the jumps, just need to pay attention in the corners when going quick.
Am going to ride/race it in the upcoming GMBC Crazy 6hr.
In the stockyards have been up and down rockwell, dam view and nanna's paving with no issues at all, bit slower than the MTb through the rock gardens but makes it fun. Handling is stable and inspires confidence, once you get used to being in the drops. Very spritly in the ups, sharp accelerations are instantanious

Next upgrade will be the wheels, have got some 2nd hand Chris King hubs on the way. will investigate some suitable new rims and then he will be finished.

In a nutshell, i love this bike
