opinions on this bike please?

This is the cheepest CX bike I can find, full Cro-mo and discs. Seems pretty good for the money, probably a bit heavy and looks to have a short top tube.
What do others think?

Pretty much what you've written - cheap and probably heavy. Effective TT length seems to be pretty much inline with what I would expect for the ST length (based on my cx and all three roadies) though.

As above, it looks ok for the price, if that's what you want.

Would you be buying it to race on? Or to ride to work?

Not for racing, for country roads, dirt/gravel and steep hills. I'd consider puting a MTB rear derailier and 36 cassette on it I think and that would put the cost by a couple of hundred dollars I imagine.

If you're going to upgrade it, then it becomes less worthwhile.

You'll probably be better off in the long run if you extend your budget a bit and buy a better bike to begin with.

You can buy similarly specced CX bikes here in Australia for around $800 - L can't see why you buy one unseen from PBK. :?

Norco Threshold 3 is almost exactly the same spec and typically can be had for under a grand. Plus it has more rack mounts than any sane person would ever need.

The Norco looks good too. I cracked the frame on my last Norco and had to trade it in but hopefully that was a manufacturing fault.

Hopefully an outlier. As I understand it, toughness is what Norco aimed for, at least in MTBs, at the expense of weight and cost.

But they may have lost their individuality now they're owned by Pacific Brands.

They may simply be the Canadian Malvern Star these days.

Norco (as I understand it) are not a Pacific Brands company. Norco and their parent company, Live to Play Sports in Canada is a seperate company in its own right.

Norco are now distributed into Oz by Advance Traders who also bring in Merida and Lapierre. They have nothing to do with Pacific Brands

Ah, good to know, SBD.

Pacific were the importers from 2010, but that must have changed.

My wife has one of their VFR hybrids.

VFR1 is what I had, 08 or 09. One of the first 700c bikes to come standard with hydrolic discs, It was a cool bike.
