Will be posting some photos and question here for my next dream build.

Frame- Custom Road Ti Frame/Fork with Disc tabs and Di2 ready.
Wheel set- XLR8 custom for sure!

I have SRAM Rival Wi-Fli gruppo or APEX gruppo to choose from. Planning to have front shifter on the downtube and buy S500 lever for the left/front brake.

I am having hard time choosing disc calipers, choosing between Hayes CX5, Avid BB7 or Avid BB7 SL.

Hayes, cheap but I can't seem to find good reviews.
Avid BB7 does not have shiny finish
SL, too expensive

I guess I need to run 46/38T chain sets to make it look like cyclocross ready?

This will be mainly used for commuting and weekend bunch ride. Targeting weight around 9kg with pannier rear rack.

Have you looked at the TRP hydro/cable disc calipers?

Supposed to be pretty good.

I am looking at this option and the new SRAM Hydro. I may upgrade to one of these in the future. I want to built it up as cheap as possible and then upgrade parts later on. People are now saying that cable disc brake development is almost on par with the hydro.

Mate is waiting for his TRP brakes to turn up. Will be interesting to compare to my BB7 roads.

My XT ice-tech brakes on my 29er are about 1000 times better than the BB7s.

Please let me know how the TRP will perform.
I am not leaning on the hydraulics. Apparently the BB7 SL's have some good review. I will probably settle for CX5 while making up my mind.

CX5, anyone have used them before?

Or a TRP Mechanical maybe to save some weight?

+ infinity on that one.

BB7's are the noisiest brakes I have ever used. Once they are hot their ok but once you cool them with a bit of dew or water from a creek crossing they start scaring the wildlife again.

I would run and hide from those POS things. Mate had them for 1 week before changing to BB7 roads. Are the BB7 SL set up for road levers?

I only just sold a set of BB5 roads very cheap that worked ok for 6500kms.

Yes, BB7 SLs are road specific brakes but they are so expensive atm.

Will changing the pad or rotor eliminate noise on BB7?

The TRP seems to be reasonable substitute as they are double piston.

I've been using BB7 Road for close to 12 months and not had a problem.
Yes - when wet or dirty they squeal like most disc brakes but when cleaned with isopropyl alcohol they are fine.

I have about 1500kms on my BB7's and they only squeel when wet and then only when just pulling up to a stop.

My frame is Di2 ready. The only thing is, I am not ready for this price yet!

I think I paid $400 for my XT Ice-techs so still expensive. If they work like them though I would say it's money well spent

Or temporarily use my wife's calipers from her Kmart bike lol

Here is the Geometry. It is more on the road bike side than CX, imo. 28C is probably the biggest tyre I can use.

What do you think of this?

Don't rate the lever. It's ugly as. Haven't used TRP discs personally but I have read they aren't much chop for mtb.

Ok thanks, maybe I'll stick to Cane Creek Brake lever and choose the right mechanical disc calipers?

I am having hard time finding mechanical calipers with consistent good reviews.

I don't mind those.
