I'm not exactly sure what I was expecting but whatever it was has certainly been exceeded. Excellent bike. Is it for everybody? No. Is it twice as good than a focus that was going to be half the price? Yes, easily.

There is one in my size at a local dealer (but I dont think there can be many left, or can be ordered). The missus is not yet onboard, but if it doesnt sell in the next little while, I might throw a cheeky offer out there. I havent seen anything newer from Focus though?
Didnt realise that these had come down by quite so much, so this could also be an option.

Definitely want something with Hyd-Disks though... Which brings up a point. Given I wont be doing any actual Cyclocross riding, If I can hold off through this winter and wait to see what Disk Brake Roadies come out (Defy around the same price etc.), then maybe that'd be a better option for what I am looking for, for next winter? The CX type bikes seem pretty heavy to me, in comparison.

I recently bought a 2013 Focus CX2.0 frameset and built it up - thread here:- viewtopic.php?f=73&t=79786" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I built it up with Ultegra, Zipp, Avid and FSA components and run it on gravel / dirt with Conti CX Speed 35mm tyres and on the road with 23mm Maxxis Re-Fuse (until they wear out, which may be never!).
The bike rides very nicely and I cannot complain about anything with how it went together. I've done about 500Km (mixed) on it and am very happy.
I can recommend Focus Mares to anyone shopping for a CX frame and/or complete bike.
cheers

I could have bought it as a 105-built rig (how I first saw it in the shop) for $1700, but had it stripped and bought it frameset only.
cheers

Cheap and cheerful frame. If it's as tough as their audax alloy frame it will give years of service. Build it up with spares from the shed and ride it into the ground.

Had some nice little upgrades from memory too... Pretty well priced, I thought.

Yeah the Norcos do look good. I've been researching CX bikes recently and overlooked them. Until now the Crux looked to be the best value. Norco have a great variety/range of specs with different (Shimano) drivetrains. Most other CX bikes seem to come with any groupset you want as long as it's SRAM.mitchy_ wrote:i'm not so sure the crux is worth $3k. can get a similar specced 2015 Threshold in carbon for $2400.

they chop and change... 2014 Giant TCX range was all Sram, 2015 is all Shimano!Ross wrote:Yeah the Norcos do look good. I've been researching CX bikes recently and overlooked them. apparently the Norco's are selling out very quickly, there are delays until the second batch are built some time next year i'm told.
they've a fantastic bike, Norco have come leaps and bounds with all their bikes over the last ~12 months. plenty of their MTB's are flooding the market too.
