Coz I use plumbing pipe, not conduit, larger diam is stiffer for a small $/weight cost.

But this piece is very hard to find;

Rd1 of the Brisbane Sram Cyclocross series was on Sunday... Was a good day out although I put more effort in getting muddy than the actual race... Although somehow I did win the muddiest bike award and I got to show my gymnastic daughters how it's really done

Good work cancan64!

I was entered to race round 3 of the Vic State series yesterday, but decided against it as I was still not 100%. I was sick leading up to the weekend in Canberra and have had a couple more sick days at home afterwards...

Vic State titles next weekend, so hoping to improve before then.

Rd 2 of the Brisbane series yesterday, was a magic day, mid 20's with a nice breeze (headwind down the bitumen straight). I had a good start in B grade being 5th coming into the first corner but then let heaps of people through, there was also a crash in the first lap which I got held up in and by the end of lap 1 my daughters tell me I saw 16th, my aim was to make the top 10 and I finished the race in 9th so now just need to be a bit more aggressive on the first lap so I am not chasing as much.

Is one race longer than the other? Longer race gives you more time to practice your skills...

Personally I would suggest racing C grade. You will be only then racing others on CX bikes where riders should be more evenly matched. Open can have a huge range of abilities; from new riders to MTB guns!

Hey Cmm, IME you'll probably be in the same race either way; in some rounds Open start at the back of the grid, other times it's a separate starting wave with a short break between. Personally if you have a CX bike I'd say definitely go for C grade - start at the back of the grid for your first race, and see how many places you can pick up!

Thanks for the feed back. Both races are being held together so same time length. And yeah I have a cx so looks like c grade it is.

Enjoy! Which race is this?

While I'm here - a few photos from the CX Nats.

I also ran a gopro in the Sunday support race and threw together a quick edit of the first lap...

Haha, you may've noticed a hubbard in a Spoxe skinsuit struggling to remount his chain for five minutes at the top of Heckler's Hill... that'd be me

I enjoyed racing both Sat on Sunday support races, especially the difference in conditions.

I was hoping the guy in front of me caught my crash with his rear camera, but haven't seen anything yet. This picture showing my riderless bike will have to do.

Sweet sand pit.

As far a grades go, I get spanked every round in Sydney by Milburn, Aitken plus all the U/19 guns but I still ride the Elite race (I'm usually mid to rear pack). Longer race, cx bikes only and usually less carnage.

For the nationals the elite field was a shadow of its normal self. Plenty of people entered masters, and people like Aitken had to race U23's (from what I heard). Can't really blame people for going to masters though, as the combo of large skill gap and pulling riders is not so much fun.

As part of the Qld state XCO champs they are running a CX race on the Saturday Sep 5th at Samford.
They have a an indicative course designed which looks like heaps of fun and possibly includes an ice bath which they are hoping will turn to slush for the A grade and be like snow...might be a good place to keep the beers cold so will need to use the single speed which has a bottle opener on the rear chain stay

Cancelled my flights and was a DNS cancan64... My wife was diagnosed with cancer on the 25th July so have been in and out of hospital and caring for her as she goes through chemo.

All riding is out the window at the moment, let alone racing! Been fitting in some runs for my physical and mental health...

Did anyone else race MCLCX on Sunday? It was my first race had a blast but I was hoping there would be a more experienced cx rider on here that could give me an idea of how hard/easy the course was compared to other cx courses they have ridden.

I am not experienced by any means but I have ridden a few courses in Canberra, foj, dirty deeds etc. I found MCLCX pretty tough. Mostly because the ground was so rocky and uneven, especially those corrigations on that little decent. I am pretty small so found it hard to get much power out there. But otherwise it was pretty fun, a good mix of tight corners, and more road crit type riding. I think a few more races and some rain will soften it all up a bit. I only ride C grade but have found the races really fun and every one is pretty easy going. :D
