CX Racing

Postby cancan64 » Thu May 21, 2015 12:35 pm

With the national CX Series about to start in the sunny (maybe muddy) state I thought it might be an idea to have a separate thread for CX racing instead of hijacking the Brisbane racing thread
viewtopic.php?f=15&t=66227&start=175

Only 3 days to go to Bowl-a-cross, I will be in the same kit as last race and have already entered race 1 and 2 of the national series although I have gone in the Masters 50-54 age group, will make a change from chasing the youngin's...well maybe

I have entered all rounds of the NCXS and will be flying up to Brisbane next weekend to race the first two rounds of the NCXS in MMAS4.

I'm dusting off the CX cobwebs from me and the bike by racing this weekend at Fields of Joy... :D

It'd be nice to meet a few more people off here - I *might* be racing in Men's C at FoJCX - if so, I'll be on the green and black Merida, in my Tetris-esque Road and Dirt 8 bit kit.

I'm going to be heading out to FoJ as a spectator (considering trading my current commuter to something i can CX with), so if you see a guy hanging about on a black Paddy Wagon with a black and yellow Bontrager helmet, you'll have seen me.

Had been thinking of spectating, but out of town visitors are now likely to see that plan fizzle.... Good luck to everyone racing!

Due to it being my first CX race in a couple of years plus much of last year out due to complications after breaking my collarbone I've entered Men's B. Will be racing my Colnago as below wearing most likely a plain red / black Uno skinsuit or Blackburn CC kit...

Was a lovely day. Great weather and challenging course!

Took it easy at the start as I just wanted to dust off the cobwebs after such a long time away. Was about 5th last (`42nd) 1/2 a lap in so made good time working my way through much of the field to end in 14th. Queensland NCXS rounds next weekend!

It was a magic day in Brisbane yesterday although that didn't help me... I might have overdone it on the weekend, got hit by a 4wd going home on Friday, then out to a party, 130km ride Saturday morning and although it was only a sprint race on Sunday just had no energy (plus sick)...and then I crashed on a sharp hairpin so was well back in the heats but came 6th in the B grade final. Part of the heats was that everyone had to stop for a photo on the lounge. made for some fun pit stops.
Will take it easy commuting this week so hopefully good for the nationals on Saturday and Sunday, not looking forward to 40 mins of this, 15 was hard enough.. there will be some mud on Sunday, there was a lot of water around the circuit when I went past on Saturday and the course normally crosses a creek.

Is there a tap or somewhere nearby where I can wash my bike after the race? I'd rather not pack the bike into the bike case looking like that...

@Blakeylonger - Are you taking up back up wheels or just taking the one set?

Asking as I am considering now just fitting everything into the bike box rather than book a second bag. But then worried if I have a mechanical on the weekend I'd be running around begging to borrow someones wheels...

Bike wash will be there, gold coin donation. This is for race 2, race 1 will be different conditions

@cancan64 - Will keep an eye out for the green helmet.

Arrived in Brisbane this morning and down on the Gold coast now even getting in a swim this afternoon. Wish I had my surf board - was small but glassy out there... Did in the end bring up spare wheels just in case. Hate to have spent $$ to get up here only to potentially DNF due to a flat.

@BenGr - yes planning on heading up to NE Vic next weekend, though naturally depending how I pull up from this weekends racing.

I was planning to, but now wedding plans have taken the Saturday, so I am hoping to get up to Sam Miranda on Sunday for a race.

I'm hoping to convince a few mates to come out for the weekend, its a bloody long way to go by myself.

Great days racing today, be it very hot for us southerners...

Got to say g'day to cancan64 and rode around on a really enjoyable circuit (mix of slow grass and tar and some short sections of single track) and then watch a blindingly fast Elite race.

Looking forward to tomorrows racing!

That was very hot for us Queenslanders.. We have only had 15 Min races so far so 45 Min was a killer.. The elite finish was great, looking forward to tomorrow.. I think
