Merida: Scultura Comp 904

Hi Guys,

Any thoughts on the Merida Scultura Comp 904. I can fairly easily find it here in Sydney for $1910.00, seems like a good price for a 105 equipped Carbon frame. Anyone have any experiences/recommendations with this bike?

Reading through this review: http://road.cc/content/review/67273-mer ... a-comp-904 all seems pretty positive?

Any other suggestions around that budget, can't afford to go over $2k. I am looking for my first road bike after being on a Hybrid for a few years.

Hey Joe,

Not too much wrong with The Merida, of course you could go for a chinese carbon option and probably get an ultegra specced bike for a similar price but the Merida is a solid option. IIRC, this frame shares the same mould as the Scultura Evo (what Lampre will be riding in 2013) so it should have some solid engineering behind it. If it fits you and your budget, I say why not?

Hi Joe, I bought a Scultura EVO 904 as my first full carbon roadie late May this year. There are lighter bikes out there but for me it has been fantastic. I have found it a very comfortable frame for riding longer distances on some fairly rough pavement. So far I have covered 2500+km on it, no issues, just replaced the stock tyres with Conti 4000s, as the originals had become badly cut. I don't race but do regularly ride 100+km's on weekends, I tried several other brands and frames, having originally gone out looking to get a totally different bike which I really liked the look, and spec of. Having found that bike and been disappointed with the test ride, the salesman suggested taking the Merida for a ride, which I did. I test road several other bikes that day, some of them much more expensive than the 904, and in the end the 904 just felt right. My advice, take a few bikes for test rides, and if like me the 904 just feels right to you then go for it.

I own three Merida bikes. Have not had a problem with any of them. They make great solid bikes that will last for a long time.

Just check the components as they can mix and match the group set so check the specs on each model you are keen on.

Thanks for all of the advice guys. Looks like I'll need to find myself a good Merida dealer here in Sydney. Might (try to) wait a few weeks, see if I can grab a Christmas bargain!
