Wise Upgrades?

Postby Kral86 » Sun Oct 13, 2013 7:13 pm

Hello All

I have a 2013 Merida Scultura Comp 905. (specs are on here)

I have been riding it for 170 - 190 kms now...

What should I upgrade???

I know the wheelset and cassette need to... So what is a good combination for that.

Thanks

Kral

It really depends on your budget. If you have a big budget, go for zipp. Zipp 303 should be alright for everyday riding. If you want a more aero wheelset, go for the zipp 404. Only problem with deeper profile wheelsets is if the winds are strong.

If budget is tight, a good clincher wheelset under $1000 is a mavic ksyrium equipe or mavic cosmic elite. If you can go to the $1000—$1500 mark, bikebug is selling there cosmic sle for $1499. That is same as mine.

These are just my 2cents. I'm really not a expert. My first upgrade was a cosmic elite with conti gp4000s tyres and it did have a difference.

Good luck.

A good cheap effecyive upgrade is pro lit bracciano. They weigh 1500 gm. Add gp4000 tyres snd your set.

Whilst the wheelset is one of Fulcrum's lesser models, it does the job well enough and you'd need to go to $400+ wheelsets (at least) to improve on its performance IMO. I'd have thought that after only 200Km of riding, you'd be wanting to do a bit more before determining what your requirements in a wheelset may be???

GP4000s tyres on the current wheels would offer a degree of dynamic improvement, if you HAD to upgrade something at this stage.

Thanks to all the replies

Okay so far I Upgraded the cassette to an Ultegra 10s 12-25t and bought second hand Mavic Ksyrium SL wheelset with GP4000s (apparently only done 150KMs)

On solo rides my climbing improved massively but speed is slightly improving.

Not sure whether to upgrade the cranks to compact pro (36-52) or standard???
