I love my vibrams. But looking at youtube videos about this specific shoe. One has had stitching issues on it. Also be aware you don't heel strike with these shoes. You fore foot strike. Total change in walking style is what I've seen.

Massdrop have a drop on Vibram Furoshiki Shoes at AU$73.00 delivered. I am thinking that they may make good camp shoes. The weigh in at 167 grams for EU 43 and seem from the photo to pack down small.

Thanks for the heads-up. Just picked up a Soto Amicus stove for $44.97. Best prices I have found so far had been around $65.

Glad to have posted some thing useful to someone.

Its a shame their range of boots are best suited for narrow feet or I might have opened my wallet.

There is some examples of some interesting pricing. :)

There is a Naturehike Star River 2 hiking tent listed at Bushwalk Australia for $90. These tents seem to have a good wrap given their price.

It is worth keeping an eye on websites such as gumtree, eBay and the like for second-hand stuff in good condition. I just picked up a Trangia 27-series kit for $20. Only thing missing was the strap - I picked up one of those from Anaconda for about $8 - and it just needed a thorough cleaning with scotchbrite and kitchen soap (and a couple of dents knocked back into shape). I have noted that this same cooking set generally retails for about $150 in most places.

Now that I got that much kit for under $30, I am deliberating whether or not to get myself a matching kettle since I do like my cups of tea and coffee (and hot milo!) whilst I am camping.

At the moment I have noted that there are a few used Trangia sets on Gumtree and they are generally asking about $50-$70 for them.

*edit*

Just noticed that the original O-ring seal has long had it. Will need to pick up a replacement if I decide to buy the little kettle.

Massdrop have a drop on the Kershaw Ration EDC Multi-Tool (2-Pack) at $34.94 in your bowl. Seems pretty pricey to me for a spoon but may appeal to some.

Macpac changes

Postby rifraf » Sun Nov 11, 2018 5:14 pm

For those who missed the acquisition of the Macpac network of stores in April 2018 by Super Retail Group, there will be a conversion of Rays stores nationally into Macpac stores. The stores changing over will be known as Macpac Adventure Hubs.

Bivouac Outdoor having another sale.
Anyone wanting a decent cheap gas stove might look at the Soto Amicus (without ignitor) at $32.49NZ + P&P if you spend under $99NZ
https://www.bivouac.co.nz/gear/camping- ... niter.html
Maybe ask Andrew (Aushiker) how he's got on with his one.

Canister Gas (screw top) 227g $4 Au per

Postby rifraf » Tue Sep 22, 2020 8:58 am

Apologies if someone has already mentioned this but a quick squiz via the search engine suggested not.

As spotted on the Bushwalk Australia forum, Kmart is selling 227g gas canisters for Au $4 each
https://www.kmart.com.au/product/butane ... 7g/3123312

Also a type of Jetboil clone (i think it might be described as) for $49
https://www.kmart.com.au/product/ultra- ... ve/3121802

Of interest for when the trans-tasman travel starts up again, an awareness that NZ has a Kmart presence with same/similar prices

https://www.kmart.co.nz/product/butane- ... 7g/3123312
