Touring v road bike

I am soon to hit the road from Cairns to Sydney. My dad is with me in a support car, so don't need a bike that can hold panniers etc. any advice on which bike is better?? More comfortable, faster etc? Thanks

From your post in the buying bikes and parts you have a Giant Avail. Do you know the model of the Avail.

Have you looked at the roads you want to take, if not I am sure the touring mob have some good advice. Also do a search on the touring forum (it has been split into equipment and touring) as I remember the same route being discussed.
