I've got one of those jackets I bought in Japan for 2500yen. Good as a very light overlayer, even better as a mid layer... compacts down to something the size of a baked bean can.

The above Ozbargain site link according to Warin is for a sale on Fathers Day.

This wasn't mentioned in the original Uniglow posting so I posted it in here thinking it had already started.

Apologies to anyone put out

Hmmmm I'm not even sure when Fathers Day is.........

This drop is back at Massdrop ... the lowest price is ~AU$199 so a bit cheaper than in March.

Had to replace my Haglof Essen Minimic [long story short, some idiot didn't secure his saddle bag] so just picked up a Montbell US Plasma 1000 Down Jacket which weighs in sub-200 grams and was selling for $200 from the Montbell Australia website. Apparently reduced from $400.

For some possibly interesting prices on jackets including down ones, following an Ozbargain site referral, I came across a site I'd not seen before:

I have a good quality down jacket, but it's so good I just can't bring myself to take it bikepacking.
So I thought I'd give one of the Harrisscarfe ones a go.
I'll let you know if it's any good.

With Perth reporting its coldest night in nine years recently (assuming I read the article right), even if all its used for is adding some warmth to a sleeping bag, its a decently priced tool.

Look forward to reading your report. Good luck with it.

It arrived before the weekend, so I took it with me on my #Swiftcampout in the Avon Valley National park.
Trying it on, it seems they stitched medium arms onto XL body. Never mind, it's OK as long as you don't point at anything & expose half your forearm.

It came with it's own stuff sack & it packs down quite small (it's relativity thin to begin with).
I wore it with a thin merino long sleeve shirt & I was warm enough. The temperature in the morning before the sun hit was 1C

So not bad. I'd be happy taking this bikepacking, & not being concerned that I'd trash my good gear.

Good that it does the job.

For those who like warm forearms, perhaps an alternative purchase might be made in an upcoming Aldi sale on July 7

Merino Wool Jacket ($49.99)
Merino Thermals ($29.99)
Down Sleeping bag ($99.99)
Touchscreen gloves ($12.99)

I'm actually looking at the kids range coming out this weekend (I think? Maybe Wednesday?).

Mr 2 could do with a down jacket so we can get outside a bit more in winter.

Of course, he will refuse to wear it, but it's the thought that counts right?

Macpac has their "Halo" down jacket once again on special $99.99

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/389067?page=1#comment

Be aware that although they have an eBay presence, it appears when bought from eBay, 10% gst is added to the total.

I'd recommend some caution when attempting to buy online from their store too as traditionally items bought online get shipped from NZ.

I'll be ringing Macpac later to find out the added gst question regarding online sales and will edit this post.

Ok, just got off the blower to Macpac.

I rung both their 1800 number and an Aussie store to confirm.

It appears that when you buy online, you should expect gst to be added to your purchase the same as eBay (as per July 1st changes)

Also the prices in store will soon being going up to reflect this gst change so that prices online and instore match.

Interesting on the gst front given that I believe Macpac is now Australian owned company.

No doubt Smoking Joe, now in the USA, will be dancing once again at the thought of Aussie battlers needing to get better jobs.

Thanks Gerry :(
