Hmmm. I bought my chair one before Christmas and noticed the foot design had changed to what appears to be an illogical shape, like a narrow light bulb or rain drop. I contacted Helinox who assured me it will be as good as the original foot which is on their website but seeing they now have an "accessory" to reduce sinking I can see their ingenuity extends beyond product design and into marketing and value adding for themselves.

Hey Ricky,

If you intend to use it in any soft sand, be aware it'll likely sink all the way to the swivel!!!!

We've got one of each.

Karin prefers the One I prefer the ground chair.

I think if you prefer to sit in your recliner with the foot rest up you will find the ground chair more that style, if you don't like doing things like eating or drinking in your recliner with the foot rest up the ground chair will annoy you.

I find getting out of the ground chair no problems, but I do tend to put one hand on the ground and sort of roll out onto my feet.

The biggest advantage the ground chair has over the One chair IMO is that you can use it in most hiking tents, just make sure you protect the floor of the tent with clothes etc. Comes in real handy when its crappy weather as I find reading etc while lying down is not good for my neck.

We are all wired differently so you are probably going to need to check out both of them

I'd need to cut a hole in the roof of my tent if I wanted to sit up and read a book, let alone sit on a ground chair.

Interesting that the AU site is the cheapest but none of the new models and only two colours in the Chair One. Thanks for the pointer to the swivel chair but once I saw the prices for that on the EU site I looked around and lo, the North American dealer Big Agnes has other models like the Chair Elite, Sunset Chair and Chair Tactical, as well as better prices than Europe's. Who wouldn't want their Helinox in blue tiger camo pattern? All it needs is a gun rack.

So Helinox in all manner of size and colour. Love how the Americans go for choice.

I found some perfect feet to day, which I think are a good compromise between silly looking tennisballs and legs sinking into the ground. I tried them on a soggy lawn and no sinking at all but I sank 10 cm in a freshly dug flowerbed. They are made for aluminium walking poles and go straight on the Helinox legs. They had some other feet with a slightly bigger footprint but I didn't try those.
Its a Swedish company, operating in Denmark, so I guess they'll send internationally. 1$ is appr= 6 dkk.
EDIT: It looks like they don't sell over the internet, its just a shopping list but they are on google https://www.google.com/search?q=walking ... 0&bih=1053" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Hi Rifraf,

Just bought the Helinox table and as I live on the beach, I "tested" the table as is, but the legs sink too far into the sand, so I printed some feet for the table as well.
They are printed in ABS plastic as they won't be taking as much weight as the chair will, which I printed in nylon.

Very impressive.
It looks like you've hit the ground running with regards the new technology and are a "relatively" early adaptor.
I remember reading about 3d printers some time ago now but wasn't sure they'd reach the "common people" thinking they might be for industry only.

Looks like we'll start seeing more and more of the star trek stuff sooner than I anticipated.
Should have known.
We used to laugh at Captain Kirks cordless phones but now every man and his dog has a mobile.

Great job and excellent innovation of the technology.
I take my helmet off to you. :)

Mongrel - do you have any of the 3D-printed feet with cross-webbing for the Helinox Sunset Chair that you will offer for sale?

EDIT jan 2016:
That was no success. First they turned around on the alu tube, that could probably be glued but then they broke, where the tube ends. They were not sturdy enough and the tube edge cut through the feet. Back to the tennis balls.

Helinox appears to have a new chair coming out in Feb2016, the Beach Chair. Nothing on the AU website at all. This chair has long flat footpads but I'm guessing that it'll still sink into the sand.

Edit: Just emailed Helinox to enquire about availability in AU.

98,9% Positive Feedback is quite good for a total of 425.000 reviews. Did you find any reviews concerning the chairs?

I think we are in between two extremes: Helinox' outrageous price and the (too?) cheap price of the Chinese. It should cost around 40-60 AUD.
Luckily I was offered mine(original) as a gift when I purchased a folding kayak ;-)

I got a reply from Helinox:
"We will have the soft ground accessory for all chairs early this year. We'll notify all our relevant customers when it is available. We opted for a "footprint" or "ground sheet" - ie a piece of material that covers the entire area defined by the four feet. It will fit easily into the existing bag.

... Beach Chair will be available in March. "

Anyone have a comparison between the Chair One, Camp Chair and Sunset Chair?

I am almost decided on the Chair One, and considering the others for other (non-cycling) uses...

Do you mean the comparision chart on the Helinox website or from local experience?

While we're at it the promised Beach Chair is now being sold elsewhere but doesn't appear on the Australian website yet. In the meantime there's a new version of the Chair One being sold in the US, the Mini. The original Chair One stands at 65cm, the Chair One Mini is at 44cm and designed for kids (or dwarves, if you're a fan of LotR). And Helinox locally now sells a groundsheet that straps onto the chair legs, stops the sinking into the sand bit.
