Pretty sure 26in full fat jp to 4.8 wide but can run 29er. Not sure about 29+ though.

They speck front fork equivalent to a Rock Shox Bluto .. and that is for a 26" upto 4.8" tyre clearance.

:?: a 29er ? You'll have to wait for Wayward to say.

I'm pretty sure if the frame will accommodate 26"x4.8" a 29er wheel will fit too. It's the 29er+ which is uncertain.

Looks interesting. Pity it didn't come out earlier I would have considered it. I guess they have taken on board thier expertise in house at Salt Bikes.
Also looking at that fork it looks like it will take Salsa Anything Cages.

I don't get the whole fat bike thing. Can someone explain it to me and why you would get one?

Thanks (seriously)

Ever tried to ride an MTB on the beach? In the desert? In snow?

I only have experience with 3"

Even though its not a fat fat, its fat enough for me to appreciate that wider tyres offer better handling at speed over rough stuff and\ goes over sand where thinner tyres fail. You can also lower the pressure to add an element of softness
If you never leave sealed roads or roads that bear a practical similarity to such, fat tyres will give you nothing but more sweat.

I fly down hills with more confidence (reckless abandon?) on my krampus (29 x 3" rigid) than I do on my high specced dual mtb (26 x 2")

They give you so many options for riding.

You can't get to these spots on a standard mtb. Well you could walk there, but why walk when you can ride.

I guess I can see a use for sandy tracks (no much snow in QLD) but seems very specialised. Do they require much more energy to ride than a standard MTB wheel? The tires just look really heavy

Yes, they are specialised, but if you are into downhill you have a downhill bike. If you live in a coastal region the local trails may sandy and a fatbike the perfect choice, and in those conditions would take much less effort to ride than an MTB

Slightly harder work to get up to speed but once there not much harder.

Riding a Fatbike is not about speed anyway. If I want to go fast I just ride one of my other bikes.

In saying that though I was just as fast in singletrack as my 29er.

Don't think I've seen a Rohloff setup with that axle width (197x12mm rear thru axle) yet.

If you do, let me know.
