Even though its not a fat fat, its fat enough for me to appreciate that wider tyres offer better handling at speed over rough stuff and\ goes over sand where thinner tyres fail. You can also lower the pressure to add an element of softness
If you never leave sealed roads or roads that bear a practical similarity to such, fat tyres will give you nothing but more sweat.
I fly down hills with more confidence (reckless abandon?) on my krampus (29 x 3" rigid) than I do on my high specced dual mtb (26 x 2")

I guess I can see a use for sandy tracks (no much snow in QLD) but seems very specialised. Do they require much more energy to ride than a standard MTB wheel? The tires just look really heavyRonK wrote:Ever tried to ride an MTB on the beach? In the desert? In snow?STC wrote:I don't get the whole fat bike thing. Riding a Fatbike is not about speed anyway. If I want to go fast I just ride one of my other bikes.
In saying that though I was just as fast in singletrack as my 29er.
