If it helps I run Clement X'Plor USH 35mm (off a tk540 rim at upto 50psi- sorry haven't put the calipers on them to see the real width) with sks longboards. Works and all fits well even in gluggy black mud but to be honest I find the longboards great as a commuter muddie, but if you ever take your front wheel off to transport you bike like do in the back of a wagon, they are a pain on a xl frame the size of the bike plus these guards means the volume of the bike and muddie combo is vast.

Also not sure if you wish to go that way but I run a warbird 11 frame bag on a 60 cm la cruz. Maybe worth a look at a number 9 as they seem to be on a bit of a run out and a bargain as made by Revelate Designs (best check your geo vs the warbird geo ) https://www.universalcycles.com/search. ... =2&q=salsa

The front SON hub ... only comes in 32 :?:

But the rear huh in 28 and 32 only... I would not go for this hub .. 17mm alloy axle, ceramic bearings .. does not sound like a touring hub to me.. advertised as "road, cyclocross and light XC riders" and goes on to say "Consider the Chris King ISO disc rear MTB hub for QR and thru axle heavy duty MTB applications." That hub is available in 36H.

I too would go for a 36 in preference to a 32, particularly on a rear.

Iso is 10 speed or xd driver 11 speed. Not compatible with our needs / wants.

The rims also only come in 32h.

Our wheel builder is confident the r45 will be ok for light touring and gravel.

Wheel builder is also confident 32h will be rock solid. Said wheel builder is a very solid 105kg+ man and builds wheels that are strong enough for him.

That and parts have already been ordered. Most likely too late.

Wheel builder is confident it will be fine for rail trails, gravel and light touring.

Chris King recommends the R45 under its touring section on the site. That's how I came across it originally (using Chris king parts Wizard).

Chris King have a 5 year warranty on the hubs which is also reassuring.

Time will tell.

Regarding the Son hub, is that spoke count max, is that a new thing :?:

My Son disk dyno, grabbed from Bike24, has 36 holes.

Whoops, I just checked and it appears bike24 only has 135 and 150 width Son28's.

Starbike has the the standard 100mm with disk and 36H
http://www.starbike.com/en/son-28-disc-dynamo-hub/

When I got my IGH, 36 had only just become available.
I understand now, if you specify "tandem", 40H is available, which is what I'd grab if I was starting once again.

For a non IGH hub, I'd be leaning towards 36 personally as a minimum but everyone has to determine their own preference.

hi all, the bikes are built and they work a treat. Took them on the O'Keefe trail and had a blast.

Since this forum doesn't allow image uploads, where do you guys normally host the files for sharing?

Edit: Nevermind, figured it out.

Great looking build.

How are you enjoying the Edelux?

Is it the Mk1 or Mk2?

I've been using the Mk1 for some years now and still very satisfied with it.

Happy Spinning.

It is a mkII

We haven't ridden at night yet so can't really say. Will do some night riding this weekend and will report back.

What I am super impressed with is the dyno hubs. I can barely tell that they are running while I'm riding. Seems like something for nothing which is awesome.

Thanks :)

I took the salsa out for a spin last night to test out the light, and damn, must say, very impressive light beam on the mk2.

Buggar

Thats embarrassing.

I went to the forum I thought I remembered reading about the 40 hole hubs, only to find mention of them gone.

I went to the Rohloff site where there is only mention of 32 or 36H hubs.

I'm retracting my above post or at least the part about 40 hole hubs.

I did find some mention of custom hub drillings of 40H but this is not factory drilled hub shell.

Apologies for anyone inconvenienced or feeling mislead about my post.

That'll learn me for quoting stuff without researching the prominence of the info.

I'm just now seeing if I can track the post that set me off in the wrong direction and can see there is custom drilling service available:
