Going soft - anyone got one of these? Just for going up big hills, of course.

Prefer local.

Scratch that - max 29t only. I have short cage dérailleurs... - can run 29t due to chainstay length, but 30t is a no go.

I have a veloce 13 - 29 done maybe 50k (mainly up hills) but decided to HTFU rather than swap everytime I wanted to do hills.

Ah, forgot about this thread. No longer necessary.

I'm off to do a bit of htfu-ing (or what ever the verb form of an acronym might be).

Nothing wrong with a bigger cassette. 12-30 is next on my purchase list. Plenty of cogs for the ups and downs. God knows why anyone would bother swapping cassettes around.

You're just getting soft :P
Just about to order a hard man's 13-26 9 speed (if I can find one locally) ... but I'm using it with a 30/46 tooth crankset
96" gear with the fat tyres I use is more than big enough for me ... the other (non-htfu) end helps me where I need help !!

I actually split the difference and ordered 13-28. Long enough range on a standard crank, and a suitably low gear on a compact crank.

sounds to me like you need to put compact cranks back on one of your bikes for days you're doing hills.
