[VIC] WTB Shimano Groupset

Postby kman » Tue Jun 18, 2013 3:07 pm

Hi I'm looking to buy a shimano groupset to upgrade a vintage build. 105 or above.

Would also consider 9 speed groupsets.

In Melbourne.

Would prefer to spend under $400 but willing to stretch out to $600 for a good deal. Depending on condition/model

How old is vintage?

I have a complete ~late 80s 500EX bike-without-a-frame that I really should find a new home for. That's the group that was below Shimano 600 - probably a precursor to 105?

That is the complete drivetrain and brake set (2x7 downtube shifters, derailers, crankset w/ 42-52 BioPace rings, twin-pivot calipers, aero-style brake levers), plus the original wheels (Alesa rims on 500EX(?) hubs with 7-speed cassette... 13-23 IIRC).

The entire package came off a fluoro-beast era Malvern Star Triathlete.

It all has very low miles. The wheels and calipers have done more work than the rest; the brake pads are original and in near new condition, and the rims still have almost all of the black anodising coating on the brake tracks (worn very slightly from a few hundred km use). But they were stored in a barn before I found the bike, so there's surface rust on some of the steel bits (bolts, springs etc).

I'm in Ballarat, which is effectively an outer suburb of Melbourne these days.

I'd be looking for ~$250.
