WTB [SYD] Broken Shimano shifters

Postby for_sleep » Sat Jul 20, 2013 5:14 pm

Hi all, newbie to the forum here. Backstory behind this request is that I have a set of Shimano Ultegra 6500 levers that I've put on a bike. Whilst changing the brake cables I managed to lose one of the parts inside the shifter. Long story short, no part = no rear brake. I am looking for a replacement part similar to the one in the attached picture and since they're not really sold anywhere I'd thought I'd turn to trying to source broken shifters.

I'm located in inner west Sydney and happy to try pick up if you're nearby or pay for postage.

Pictured shifter is a Tiagra shifter (not mine) with the part in question highlighted.

Hi there,
Your local bike shop should be able to order the part in, or you could try:
SJS Cycles
Not sure what shipping would cost though!

An available spare part from Shimano, and not expensive. Or via the innnernets.

Yeah tried asking at the LBS for both either a spare cable hook or any broken shifters they might have. Was told that trying to order such an old part isn't worth the trouble, they chuck anything that is broken (fair enough) and that I may as well get new levers (which annoys me because they are perfectly working shifters). Thanks for the link, I'll keep an eye out for when they restock!

Yep I know they exist as spares, trying to source them economically is the hard part haha

Back to the top of the page with ye. That's for holding my 4500 shifters hostage. :P

I have a couple of very similar parts from Shimano brake levers (non STI) which might fit. I've got two different types, one is symmetrical, and the other has the centre hole slightly off centre. I'll send a couple of photos and you can see if it looks the same.

Thank you all for helping and the offers I got. Ended up going to Clarence St Cyclery in Sydney where Dan in the workshop kindly supplied me with a cable hook from a broken shifter.
