WOLVERHAMPTON, UK – To facilitate the ongoing expansion of its on-line retail business Wiggle recently opened a brand new 30,000 square meters distribution centre. It took the company two years to prepare the 240 kilometres move from its previous base in Portsmouth.

“From now on we will be even better positioned to deliver unrivalled service from the new distribution centre,” said Wiggle’s Chief Executive, Stefan Barden at the opening ceremony. “The location of the building is excellent as we are situated three kilometres from the M6 and nine kilometres from the M5, the warehouse boasts 95 lorry parking spaces and 32 loading bays. The excellent infrastructure enables us to compete in the national and international markets through outstanding road, rail and air links.”
Multi-million investment

Wiggle claims to be the world’s biggest online cycle and tri-sports retailer and to maintain their position it made a multi-million euro investment in a distribution centre which is three times the size of the previous facility and is roughly three-times the size of a rugby pitch.

A century after opening as a small independent bike shop called Butler Cycles in Portsmouth, Wiggle will remain a big presence in the city they are accustomed to calling home, with both Wiggle’s Headquarters and bike business remaining in the city to serve more than one million customers across 70 countries.
Organi growth in the future

Stefan Barden, Chief Executive of Wiggle comments, “Over the last three to four years we have seen 15-20 per cent annual volume growth, and we are investing in this site to support that continued level of organic growth in the future. We will focus on expanding the brand internationally whilst maintaining our service level and technical knowledge in our home territory. This site enables us to use our scale to lower our costs which we will in turn invest in ever improving market leading service for our customers.”
