Just happened to go to King St Cyclery website and saw that they are closing down.
http://www.kingstreetcyclery.com.au/
Last day is Sunday 5 August.
Noted that Two Monkeys Alexandria closed abruptly earlier this month.
Also saw an email overnight that Clarence St Cyclery is partnering with Trek (sounds like the Cook family has sold the business to Trek?)
Sounds like doom and gloom...
Shame I'm not in the market for a new bike.
More bike shop closures in Sydney!

I've previously purchased some hard to find tools from King Street Cyclery at reasonable price. I hope Clarence Street Cyclery doesn't change too much - they are a really excellent bunch of people, cannot rate them highly enough.Zippy7 wrote:Just happened to go to King St Cyclery website and saw that they are closing down.

Hard to compete with online and warehouse pickup business models.Zippy7 wrote: Sounds like doom and gloom...

Even for immediate pickup items the online ordering system let's warehouses be located in a cheap back alley or away from street level and fit a lot of stock in a compact shelving system.
I don't envy any traditional retail because the business model is surely dead besides some luxury items which people will splurge on vacation and big sales.
Trying on clothes and test riding is still important, but eBay plus and similar premium services now offer 30 day free return without reason so nothing can compete with that, people can try on item for hours and even in use and then decide it's not quite right.

Heard tonight (second-hand) that Two Monkeys closed due to a dispute with the landlord...

Cycling Republica in Crows Nest also shut their door for the final time in Oct.
Never been to the shop. Only seen them when I'm on the bus on Pacific Highway.
They always had fancy TREK and FACTOR bikes.
I remember they organised regular group rides departing from their store, including a Belgie ride a few months back.
