Uploading a Map to Garmin Connect

Postby flashpixx » Fri May 09, 2014 4:07 pm

The Grand Fondo I plan to ride next week has provided the route in both tcx and gpx.

Attempting to upload them to Garmin Connect (click upload, select map file, and upload). I get an error stating invalid file, try again? Am I doing something wrong?

If someone can be bothered this is the link to the map files: http://armadalegf.com.au/events/gps-maps/

I am doing to 70 km ride. This is my first GF and first attempt at uploading a file to Garmin Connect. :?

Thanks in advance :D

I suspect when you're uploading it is actually looking for an activity file, and from memory if there is no speed values in the GPX/TCX file then Garmin Connect won't accept it.

Have you tried just dropping the TCX or GPX in to the NewFiles folder on your Garmin when it is plugged in to the computer? When you turn it on it should hopefully recognise it as a course and put it in the right spot.

As mentioned above just download the file to your computer (tcx file is better) and then plug in your Garmin and copy the tcx file to the NewFiles folder. Then unplug the Garmin, turn it on and go to Courses where you will find the ride map.

I use the above technique on my garmen 500 but it only works if the file is tcx

I wish that Garmin connect new mapping feature would allow the import of other site files

Hi flashpixx

Download it to the new files folder on your garmin. I did it and it worked fine for me.
It'll be my first major bike ride too. Are you riding it alone or with others?
