Broken Start/Stop Button On Edge 500

Broken Start/Stop Button On Edge 500

Postby Tank1252 » Tue Jun 03, 2014 9:22 pm

After 3 years decent use my Garmin Edge 500 finally died tonight on the commute home. I went to stop my ride & couldn't find the button. On closer inspection it appears to have disappeared into the unit. With a really hard push of the button with my nail i was able to stop the ride, but i don't think this will last long. Any ideas if this could be fixed? Or should i start saving for a new head unit?

Same happened here, but was under warranty. Exchanged with a replacement unit. Apparently you can purchase an exchange unit for a reasonable price for items out of warranty as yours clearly is.

I (hopefully) seem to have repaired the unit for now. I got some help on the Garmin forums. I had to order a tiny Torx driver (T5) to get the unit open. The problem was the inside of the rubber button no longer being aligned with the switch on the main board of the unit. I built up the inside of the button & reassembled. It appears to be working again now. Fingers crossed!

The replacement refurbished units are ~$110 through the support line (cracked my screen and couldn't find a replacement online) not relevant here though.
