Garmin 510 Auto Power Down

Postby flashpixx » Mon Feb 09, 2015 3:52 pm

Have it set to "On" but it doesn't power down after 15 mins. Am I missing something? It is mid ride so has current ride data that I've not saved.

On the Edge 800 the timer needs to be stopped rather than paused.

thanks, probably the same on the 510. with the 500 it would shut down on pause.

Have it that way so I can record the commute to/from work as one ride for Strava. Looks like it will be two rides from now on :?

On auto pause the 500 wouldn't shut down.

On the 510, you can pause the ride, shut the unit down manually, and restart for the commute home. The ride data *should* still be there for a continuation of ride. Before taking my work for it, I would test this out on but I have done this successfully to save battery during a long break.

Hi guys,
Long time listener first time caller.

My 510 will auto power off after 10-15 mins after pushing pause. (The screen displays save/discard when paused)
when i turn back on, pushing play/pause again will resume on the same ride.

Not sure what mode the auto power is set to but i haven't changed it from the factory setting.

Hope that helps.

I'll give a go tomorrow, thanks

With the latest firmware update (3.4), ride data gets lost if the 510 is powered down mid-ride.

Wow, thanks for this joomz - big ride coming up and I was going to do shut down during the lunch break. Recently did the upgrade to 3.4 so I would have lost it!

Edit: Just did a lunch time test, admittedly, only a couple of hundred metres. Paused, then shut down while the save/discard screen was active, then restarted after a minute or so. On powering up, the save/discard screen was still active. Started again and the data was still there. Not conclusive and would seem risky with lots of distance you wanted to preserve. Confirmed firmware version was 3.40

Try turning off the backlight. If visibility is still ok, it should buy you a bit more time. I've found after 3 1/2 years my Edge 800 battery has dropped from 13hrs to about 11:45.

OK.... I have 3.4, came with it loaded. After leaving it on for 10 hours yesterday was down to 47% battery

I'm happy with 2 rides being recorded, better than losing one

That's interesting. So it's only affecting some units then! I've done a couple of tests and it's lost the data on my rides every time.
