Inner tubes

Howdy all,

Probably a really stupid question, but, how do I tell what size inner tube to buy? After having repaired my first puncture the other day, I thought that it might be prudent to stock up on tubes.

My tires are 700 x 37c I believe, but, I don't know that that is the measure to use. I thought I might buy online as there was some other things that I wanted from a particular store, so knowing the size beforehande would obviously help .

Any help would be greatly appreciated. About to hit up mr google as well .

Like I always say, Google is your friend.

Tire Sizing was quite interesting as was the article on tires and tubes by the same chappie.

Still leaves me head scratching a little. Take these offerings for example. The 700 value is right, but the xxC value is smaller. Does that matter?

Tubes will stretch amazing amounts and are usually/often expressed in ranges of widths. Just get one that says it'll handle your width tyre and you'll be right, even if it also says it'll got inside a stick of spaghetti.

I'm with Europa on this one.

For some reason tubes appear to be generally available with presta valves in 2 widths only:
19/23C and 32/35/38C.

Use 19/23C in 19 to 28C tyres and 32/35/38C in 32 to whateverC tyres.

They have presta 700 x 28-32 and 700 x 35/43c tubes

I wonder if you could use a 27" tube from Kmart ?

Not with a Schaeder valve as all KMart/Big W tubes seem to be.

And why is it that these same two chain stores continue to stock 27" tubes and tyres, and have never stocked 700C, depite in the case of Big W at least, selling 700C wheeled bikes?

Since the main bike-buying demographic for those 2 stores are 12-15 y.o. kids who are looking to buy the coolest (read: most colourful and chunky) looking MTB they can find.

Which explains their stocking of 26" (559mm ETRO) tyres and tubes but not 27" (630mm ETRO) which they stock instead of 700C (622mm ETRO).

KMart has just started selling 700c tubes with Presta valves where I live.

The way they run down their stock these days (stupid) all that was left for about 6 months was loads of 27" tubes. Handy if you had a 15 year old bike I guess.

I don't live close to a Kmart, but the local(ish) Big W still carries only 27" tubes (Schraeder valve).
