Value this bike

Postby drhibbert » Wed May 13, 2009 3:55 pm

Friends,

I'm doing some research on a bike and I have come accross the Bottecchia AV800, which is a flat bar hybrid and has the following specs:

Frame: Aluminium 7005 hydrosculpture
Fork: Integrated Steel
Gears: Shimano Acera
Front Derailleur: Shimano TZ
Exchange Controls: Shimano ST EF50 21v
Freewheel: Shimano TZ 077
Crank: BTC alu TS 110 52-42-30
Chain: KMC Z 72
Brakes: Aluminium BTC V-Brake
Hubs: Alu Parallax locking blacks ant + post
Tires: 700x35 TRK
Steerer: Aluminium BTC
Pedals: TRK aluminium
Sizes: Men:44 - 48 cf, Ladies 44 - 48 cf
Colors: silver satin
Weight: 12.4 Kg

This bike is not sold here, but does anyone know which bikes/models would be comparable to this, and how much it would cost?

Thanks!

Similar bikes:
Apollo Broadwalk
Avanti Expedition
Giant Elwood

All these probably have some better quality parts than what you've listed. They retail about the $500-$550 mark. For the Botecchia new I'd be figuring around $450. If it's o/s, whats the extra shipping cost? Add that in and you might be better off buying local on this one.

You could probably pick up a barely used elwood from ebay for $300 - $350. No offense but most people who buy them don't pile the miles on them, some don't get used at all after the first week and you can score a bargain.

Thanks for the tip.

Why does no one keep the Elwood? Is it harder to ride?

My height is 183cm and from crotch to floor is 84cm, so what size would I be looking at?

Becuase its often purchased by "gunna" riders, i.e. Im "gunna" ride and get fit. And then they dont. E.G. My father whose 2008 Elwood SE is gathering dust in his shed as we speak.

So it's not just me with short legs/long body, phew :D
You'd probably be best looking at a 19"/56-58 cm bike, subject to fitting of course.

A workmate got himself an Avanti expedition, nice unit.
