What pedals would you get??

Postby GoSchlecko » Thu Jul 30, 2009 2:17 pm

Hey Guys,

Looking to decide which pedals to pop on the BMC SC01 promachine bike when I get it next week. It is an Ultegra component bike at this stage.

Pedals: Looking around on eBay, can get Ultegra 2009s for $150, Ultegra 2010s for $190, or Dura Ace 2009s for about $260.

Or are there non Shimanos I should look at?

Thanks Guys!

check out the weight difference between 105's and ultegra's. there is not much in it. I was set to buy myself a set of ultegras for my new bike but a mate who rides A grade surgested I get the same as him: 105's. They are strong, circa 30grms heavier than ultegra and 50 clams cheaper. IMO a better deal.
If you want light pedals speedplays could be the way to go.

+1 and cos they look better. Unless you want to keep it in the family in which case there is nothing wrong with Ultegra's (which is what I run).

Don't Speedplays get most of their weight savings from the mech being in the cleat?

Yep you should compare the pedal+cleat weight for the Speedplay.

I have tried the Look Keo, Speedplay X-series, and I still prefer the Shimano system. Cleats wear well.

I'd choose the 105s over the Ultegra for value for money.

I wouldn't mind a pair of Time pedals if the time (wasn't meant to) ever comes. Super hot!

Just got 2 pairs (two bikes one pair of shoes  ) of Mavic Avenir pedals from chain reaction, lighter than ultegra(145g/ea) and cheaper, will keep you posted on how they perform when I get to ride with them

Ultegra SL's in the Ice Grey are the business. Would look great on your new bike.

let me be the first to say Keywin; lightweight, low stack, hard wearing, brilliant design.

Me too. Look Keo sprint in white = hot.

In that sort of price bracket they all do the job, it's a matter of preference for looks and ease of entry.

Thanks for all the input everyone.

Decided to buy some new gun-metal Shimano Ultegras via an ebay store for 180 bucks. Ordered yesterday, got today. Very nice they look too! :)
